My fine TGP stumbled to a stop yesterday eve. and would restart, but stumbled some more and died then wouldn't start at all. It tries to fire but doesn't get running. I put a fuel filter on it today but no luck. I sprayed starter fluid in the IC tube and it will run for only a second. I sure would appreciate any suggestions or most likely problem. I dont have a fuel pressure guage. Thanks.
Hey, I would go buy a fuel pressure gauge. If you can use starting fluid to make the car run than you have a fuel delievery problem. Could be the pump, but you wont know until you get the gauge. You could probably get one at autozone pretty cheap.
stick you head near the tank (under back seat) and have someone
turn on key, should hear pump run for 3 seconds, if not check fuse
and relay near battery, left strut tower.
Your problem is most likely either the DIC module, or the crank sensor.
Try this.
Do you have a friend? Get some carb cleaner (starting fluid is a little too volitile) and have your friend operate the key while you spray the carb cleaner in the TB. If you can keep the car running while your spraying, then the problem is fuel related. If it doens't want to run, then look elsewhere.
You can try to bang in the middle of the fuel tank with a large rubber mallet or similar while your friend cranks the motor and see if it gets the pump running again.
Take off a spark plug boot. Get an extra spark plug and put it in the boot like it would normally go. Make sure the outside of the spark plug is grounded against the engine, but try not to hold it with your hands. Have your friend crank the engine and see if there is a good spark. Its still possible to have intermittent problems here, but its a decent test. If you have a digital volt meter (even better one with wave form viewer) you can check the output of the crank sensor and the IC module to determine exactly which is the problem.
Well I got it to start this evening.
See, I knew Chris A. would come up with an ingenius solution. I think It was the rubber mallet to the gas tank that did it. It didn't work immediately but when I went out and tried it this evening I heard the fuel pump run and it fire up and stayed running. I'll probably take it to a shop and let them analyze its fuel and spark systems. Looks like I can have a Merry Christmas after all and thanks to all who gave ideas.
:silly: You're welcome.
If you were doing it yourself, this would be a better offer. But I have a new/used fuel pump if you are interested. It wasn't in the car very long and its the correct ACDelco pump. Let me know.
Chris
Yeah, my car is still having the problem. It wouldn't start the next morning. It had virtually no fuel pressure. This afternoon I tried it again and it did start. I am pretty sure it is the fuel pump or related systems because I haven't heard the fuel pump run when it won't start but I heard it run and waalaa it started up and now have fuel pressure. I did switch the relays between my other hibernating TGP with no immediate success last night. So have we narrowed it down to the fuel pump or is there other possible related causes ? Is it cost and time effective for me to buy your fuel pump, Chris or can I get it from local sources about the same price yet faster ? I am appreciating ya. Lemme know.
Well with christmas, probably not time effective. I don't even know what the price on the pump was, I think about $100 with the strainer. Would $50 shipped be worth your while? I don't know how easy it would be to get the right one. I checked a couple of online sites and they didn't have the right one. You could always get a bigger pump, but I really think it would be overkill for the fuel system. Lemme know.
Chris
Yeah that price is fair, I'm going to try to get my brother to help me put it in. Wait for me to give you the Ok to send it , and my mail info etc. I have come down with some flu like symptoms and my work is keeping real busy here on Christmas eve. Do you have a paypal account or what payment, and do you have that Pt # handy ? I might have it somewhere.
yep my paypal is my email aldridgec@turbogpgarage.com I can ship it right away on thurs if you paypal me. Would you be interested in the whole sending unit or just the pump (your choice, doesn't change the price).
the part number GM 25163463 ACD LP375. There are two choices for the strainer and I can't remember which is which, but they are ACD ts9 and ts29.
Chris
Sent you an e-mail.
