Title: Trans Shudder :(
Post by: Prospeeder on April 03, 2012, 07:21:38 PM
Im having a problem. Car has 86k on it.
Light throttle - 1st to 2nd is slight delay but smooth, 2-3 some delay smooth, 3-4 smooth. Lockup undetectable
Medum throttle - 1-2 delay and slightly harsh, 2-3 shudders for a second and then lulls into gear, 3-4 smooth
Heavy throttle - 1-2 large delay, slam, 2-3 longer shudder and slightly harsh engagement. 3-4 smooth
WOT - 1-2 large delay, bang, 2-3 shudder, sometimes slip for a second, and harshly engagement.

Pulled the pan, almost nothing for material in the pan, really clean, even the magnet was fairly clean. Fluid was dark but red, didn't smell burnt. Filled with Synthetic Valvoline fluid. I also tried tweaking with the vacuum modulator, its an adjustable one. Helped slightly. Counterclockwise is firmer correct?

Basically im wondering if this is common and beginning signs of transmission failure, or could this possibly be a valve body or accumulator seal issue? Im pretty bummed out. Seems everything is coming down at one time, Brakes, Trans, Leaks, interior electrical.. uhg im trying to baby it along right now, hopefully i dont need a full rebuild

Guess kind of a follow up, Reverse slips slightly too. The delay and slippage is alot worse when the trans is still cold. When the trans is warm/hot delay Slippage and shudder are nearly gone, but still slightly there. This is sounding like seal failure rather than clutch failure, but obviously clutch failure is going to happen if i keep driving it and allowing it to happen. Are the seal kits for these transmissions any different than the non HD? And would there be update kits or anything springs ect... while im in there??

Have you tried a regular modulator.

I forgot to update this. I actually replaced the modulator and it seemed to fix it. Still has times where is delays. oh well.
