I'm shopping for prices on radiator recoring. I tried to let my fingers do the walking in my local area, but everyone had to see it.
What are some prices you guys have found for radiator recoring. I know over the years I've heard prices anywhere from $175 on up. They guys around here are pretty expensive, so I would like to find a source that is pretty cheap, that will do it with the RIGHT core, even if it means shipping.
Chris
I paid $324 for a recore. But I wouldn't have him do another one.
VA rte 1 $175+. Most told me its not worth it to recore a 13yr old radiator then I told them how much one cost to replace and they had a different understanding.
Whats the name of the shop? I just had one done since there wasn't much response, $350. Did a nice job and it bets the alternative. Most shops gave me a guesstimate of 200-300 sight unseen.
Thanks
The one I went to is called Mt. Vernon radiator 703-360-0631. Just to let you know the owner was not to reluctant to recore/fix a 13yr old radiator. His suggestion was to buy a new one. I told him initially it was not one of those plastic crap units that GM sales for its 95+ vehicles. He is going to ask what the radiator is made out of first. I did let him know though that replacing my radiator with a stocker was totally out of the question especially to the tune of $1500. Thats the reason I just bought the griffin unit. OH yeah be a pal and sale me your chip  !
You shouldnt pay more than $200 if you do the R&R.

Yeah, thats my prob. I can't find anyone who can do it for less than $350, and I don't have time to runt his thing to 5 different shops for the best price. The thing that seems to really drive up the price is the core itself.
Have you actually gotten one recored for $200, or are you just making an inference based on other recores?
Thanks
Chris
and they welded on aftermarket fan brackets, but this was through a friend who works at another shop(sub'd out). Basically, I had friends who had friends ....but still, dont get ripped off man
yeah, thats what I'm trying to avoid, but $350 to actually get it done is about the best I can do around here. This last shop did a stellar job fixing up a crashed radiator. New cap fitting, necks fixed tanks fixed and recored. Can't complain.
I'm pretty busy, so I just can't travel around to differnent places with this rad, besides the last time was over $400 so its at least getting better.
Chris
I had a local guy that has been doing it on Semis and intercoolers for a long ass time and he's good! I got a hell of a deal compared to what you are all talking about. He said he'd never seen anything like it on a car before! damn thing works great! maybe you all could ship'm my way and then I can talk to him. E-mail me if you wanna'
:?:
Sounds promising, but can you talk to him and then we send them to you instead of the other way around ? About what price did you get ?
Thanks
Yeah, the last guy that did one asked what the hell it came off of too!
I'll call him on Monday and let ya know what he says and I'll check a price for a bunch let me know how many I'll be giving to him if ya can.
