So my LG5 equipped '87 6000 SE wagon is running amazingly with this motor! But it has a quirk that I can't figure out. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on it. It runs perfectly and smoothly, and it is definitely a sleeper at the red lights :icon_twisted: The motor has a different cam, I can't remember what kind or the specs now but it's not lopey or anything. Every now and then after putting a lot of boost behind it, as I come to a stop it almost wants to stall but it never, ever does. I've been driving the snot out of it and it has never left me once, but it's a bit unnerving when I come to a red light and the tach starts to bounce between 700 and 1000 rpm. It always eventually calms down and settles at about 1000 but, it's a bit strange. All sensors were replaced with new ones from the dealership when the motor was rebuilt. I thought it could be the IAC? Or is it just the cam? Man this thing runs awesome though!
Also, the big thunk that it does that shakes the whole car when I'm coming to a stop and it downshifts to first gear - is that a bad transmission mount? They were replaced too! I also have a polyurethane MRZ dogbone, so the motor hardly moves.
thanks!
Anyone?? Anyone?? chirp chirp chirp.....
Sounds like the IAC settings need to be adjusted in the base tune I sent you.
Hey Flybynite!
Thanks for responding - I was gonna text you :icon_lol: So for two days now it has been the complete opposite. Now it's idling at 1000 rpm in and out of gear. It actually feels and drives a whole lot better that way but I don't know if that is too high. If it is, it's probably more work on the brakes. The temp doesn't seem to get past 110-115. Even the huge "thunk" I mentioned that rattles the entire car when it downshifts to 1st just before stopping is not noticeable any more. It's nice and smooth. So I'm guessing that wasn't a trans mount issue, but a lack of vacuum issue maybe? I stopped by Black Label and they said it should be around 700 in gear and 1000 out of gear but that it won't hurt anything. What are your thoughts? We checked the linkage on the TB and nothing was binding or anything. The IAC is new as of when the motor was rebuilt. It runs really nice now, maybe it's supposed to be that way??
