Title: Another kill on the way to work...
Post by: Fred931 on October 06, 2012, 05:33:52 PM
Getting my adrenaline up always makes me feel like my BG is low with all this shaking! Anyways...

Same 4-lane, again, but earlier than with the truck. I'm in the left, and I pull up to a light alongside a Golf (Which, during the Mk5 years, was sold in the States as a Rabbit which I think is ridiculous) 5th gen with smoked taillights, some shiny white rims, and a glittery "DUB" stickered under the VW logo. :icon_rolleyes: I did not hear a turbo, likely meaning it wasn't the GTI, though I don't see why I couldn't beat 200HP from a dig. Maybe the guy had mods (Standard 2.5 I5 makes 170HP). I want to say it had that black grille accent and GTI badge on the front... but I didn't see one on the back. Of course, maybe he got rid of it when he put on "DUB..." This is the best image I can find: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_cSn16WDDwHc/TRSxecGz-LI/AAAAAAAADrA/foGT5E12dSg/s1600/eurp_0910_04%252B2007_vw_rabbit_mk5%252Bleft_rear.jpg (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_cSn16WDDwHc/TRSxecGz-LI/AAAAAAAADrA/foGT5E12dSg/s1600/eurp_0910_04%252B2007_vw_rabbit_mk5%252Bleft_rear.jpg) May as well have been an R32 for all I know. (EDIT that was a joke, no way I can beat 250hp right now lol)

We don't go on the first light, but I imply that I could beat him with a little hustle to the next one. Light is red for just long enough for both of us to stop. Light turns green, I accelerate normally (I have not actually looked over at the guy yet) and I can hear his fart cannon holler as he is already struggling to stay alongside. So I floor it. I hit the speed limit (57) in no time and let off; he is a couple car lengths behind me and done as well, no ricer fly-by. I pull in front of him to get ready to make my turn off to work.

Edit again: OK I am reconsidering whether or not this was an R32. That's unbelievable if I did beat one, 0-60 in 6.5 or 6.2 seconds is what Wikipedia says. The body panel colors matched and unless the guy put on a bodykit, that's the only trim that had matching colors. And I was stupid to call it a fart-cannon because it was really fairly subdued. But it did sound exactly the same a level and tone as the R32 I used to park next to at school every day... :icon_eek: Even the stock R32 rims feel almost identical in my mind.

Awesome it's always nice to hear that someone is actually enjoying their TGP!

Talked with guys on a VW forum and we kinda agree now that it was definitely a regular 2.5L Rabbit. So nothing worth bragging about, really, though stock 0-60 times between the TGP and it are pretty close.

When I had my 1989 TGP in Italy a few years ago I raced a R32.....he had me by 5 car lengths easily after 1/4 mile.

Maybe with mods to around the 300HP range a TGP could beat an R32. They weigh a good 200-300 pounds less and have AWD.
