i just bought a 1990 mclaren grand prix 2 days ago, it has a big 60 trim turbo on it and everything else is stock from what i know of from looking at it, top gun ecu chip as well, the car idles high, the guages dont give me correct readings except for boost and temp guage, hud works thats how i know how fast im going, fuel guage is incorrect which really sucks...can someone help me lol and the odometer does not work at all could this be a computer issue? random warning lights when there is nothing wrong check guages comes on and there is nothing wrong im confused
The gauge cluster is shit on every single TGP. I haven't bothered trying to fix anything except the low fuel light, and that takes re-soldering a chip on the back of the gauges. Of course I suck at soldering and now the light is back on so... Whatever. You don't have to worry about it if you don't want to. And also, I believe the other two gauges are usually off as well; my mechanic said the temp reading was lower than it actually is.
We aren't sure the man responsible for messing up every TGP cluster was ever fired from McLaren for it. :icon_lol:
As far as high idle is concerned, the others can help you out, as well as find that low fuel light fix (wherever that writeup went) for you to try. IIRC, fixing the entire cluster is a much bigger job...
thanks fred just gotta see if the oil pressure guage is correct because its sits above the red at idle and does not go past 40 under hard acceleration hopefully its incorrect
Not sure how mechanical you are, I've repaired 2 clusters rebuilding them with parts from other clusters.
Get some manuals and start fixing things 1 by 1, each one could be a number of things.
Make sure your alt is working correctly and you have good grounds.
