Title: Turbo blanket and Return oil
Post by: Gibby on July 09, 2013, 03:28:48 PM
This TGP I got came with a turbo blanket, and it is in awful shape... Did they all come with one?  Just wondering if its worth getting a new one or if I should just toss this ugly thing...

Also, pretty sure return oil line is leaking, because I have smoke, but cant see any oil from rear of turbo.... maybe valve seals because it sat so long???  Anyways, where exactly is the oil return line, and what does it take to replace it???

Thanks a bunch everyone..

Replace the turbo blanket soon!  Heat kills many things on these cars.  I like the DEI turbo blankets.

Two hose clamps for the oil return line sort of a PITA.  Make sure you get strong enough hose for the replacement.  A search should get you the right hose on this forum.

Awesome, found the same kit on ebay for cheaper, ordered..

I will have to look into that oil return line next week when I have time.

Anyone have pictures of that DEI blanket installed? If not how did you work around the o2 sensor? I'm getting tired of melting things under my hood.

I can get a picture but it doesnt really tell you too much.  What I did was unplugged the O2 sensor and cut a hole in the wrap kit, which I fed the sensor tail through.  Then I used a series of metal zip ties to secure it as tightly as i could to the turbo.

I think I'm mostly concerned with how good it looks underhood, I've been looking around but haven't found something I totally like yet, but I seem to see a lot of referrals for this DEI kit.

Well here is pictures of mine setup with the intake pipe wrapped as well.  I dont think it looks all that bad, I dont like the specter filter but the car runs better with it than the stock setup.  All the red lines are vacuum, on these older cars I like to know where all my vacuum is.
