Title: Engine stalls and misfires
Post by: gammite on August 10, 2013, 09:20:04 PM
I have a 89 TGP engine in my 91 Cutlass Convertible. It bogs down and will barely run at times. When it is barely running it will die if I give it too much gas. It starts misfiring like one of the coils is not working. Then it starts bogging like it is not getting fuel. I have checked the coils and they are working fine. I have changed the fuel filter inside the tank as well as the inline filter. I have changed the Crank Position Sensor. If the car sets for a while it will run fine for a while. At times it will rev will while in park but starts stalling again when put in run. The fuel pressure reads fine. Does anyone have suggestions on where to look to solve this problem.

Ignition control modules give some pretty awful running symptoms, bad ECU can cause a host of running issues, bad injectors, on these cars they are known to fail, OHM check all of them, if any of them are lower than 11.9 they are junk.

Thanks for the reply. I have been out of pocket for a couple of weeks. I have changed the injectors. I checked all coils. My next check will be the ICM and then the ECU. I have noticed that it seems to be temperature sensitive. Chances of problems increase in stop and go during hot days.
