Title: PCV valve? maybe?please help!
Post by: m6amba on January 08, 2003, 02:50:49 PM
today i pulled my airbox in favor of a cone filter direct to turbo but wen i did the above mod my engine had all kinds of power till i hit 3500rpm then it shut down to 1500 for ten sec. or so then i could rev it back up to 3500 and the same thing would happen    wen i put the factory box back in i had no more probs.....( it was low on gas but not out could there be a sensor that prohibits me from revving it up wen low on fuel?)   any help would be much welcomed thanks guys!

I have recently had the same problem with the install of my cone filter.  I think my problem is a bad fuel pump,  but yours could possibly be just starving for fuel due to being low or if you are overboosting the computuer will shut off fuel.  See if it happens when your boost guage hits 9.5-10 psi and add some gas to the tank.  Other possibles are a dirty fuel filter or a weak fuel pump.

Do you have a chip in your car?

If you don't, you are probably hitting the fuel cutoff of the stock chip. The better flowing filter lets the engine outrun the stock settings for boost and hit an overboost condition.

Or like Mike said, you could be suffering from other problems. With the better flow of the filter, you could now be suffering from fuel problems or spark problems.

More details please.

Title: Ha fuel pump

Like Chris and Mike said its your fuel pump cutting off or low fuel presure.  Checking to see if your fuel pressure is low is easy. Rent a fuel presure tester from the parts store like Autozone or Pepboys ect. , or have a mechanic check it for you at a shop. Your fuel presure should be better than 26psi or at 32 psi at idle. Anyless and your fuel pressure is low. If so its prob. your fuel dampenner(on the fuel pump in the tank, cannister looking thing). But eather way replace it with a new pump and use a new hose instead of the dampenner. Your presure regulater could be at falt too. but only if fuel drops to zero after you shut the engine off. There should at least be 3 psi of fuel left in there after the engine is off. Ever tried starting the engine more than once every time you turn the engine off for hours or minutes.

Whats a PCV valve :D !  that will definitely not cause that problem.  Max psi is 9ish.  With an open filter you hit it quick!  Get a chip!

hey sry bou tthe info but i didnt put on the filter all i had was the tube from the box to the turbo so...it was a test and i  didnt realize that the vacuum pressure sucked the end of the rubber hose shut my friend and i figured it out today wile we were playin under my hood now i kno that it is feasible to do that particular mod but i definatly need to put a stiff filter base on the end of the hose(running w/o ur filter is stupid but i just did it as a test round my block dont ever attempt at home! u can mess up ur engine) neway thanks every one for ur replys and ill kepp u posted on my future mods..........(top gun chip, straight fow exhaust, new sound system)
