Title: intake hoses
Post by: john jackson on February 21, 2003, 01:29:59 AM
What would happen, if anything, if i used coolant hose to pipe the intake? Heavy duty truck hose has the right diameter and has enough psi rating but is cheaper than the silicone turbo hose. I do not think heat would be an issue since it carries coolant at 200+ degrees. I do not mean using regular radiator hoses but a good 2 ply heavy duty hose. Need input!

If it will fit nothing will happen.  You can really use just about anything that won't collapse.  My first intake in 1992 was a PVC pipe, there were no intakes for berettas back then.

You can goto an exhaust shop and have them make you an intake really cheap out of exhaust piping.

That should work fine, as long as it doesn't collapse...like it has been said.  It will collapse easily at times too, so be careful.  But remember, it needs to flex at some point because the engine moves while driving, and the intercooler is mounted solid.

The problem with rubber vs silicone is when it gets hot it gets softer giving more chance for collapse.  Just like when your coolant hoses are hot then are really soft.
