Title: Installed K&N filter and billet aluminum motor mounts to
Post by: 90TGP on February 21, 2003, 10:30:34 PM
And all I can say is wow! My car is extremely right now, and I'm loving every minute of it. I bought the RU-1770 K&N cone filter with a 20* angel on it. I removed the stock air box and all the hoses with it and installed the K&N filter. It was a tight fit. I took the car out for a test drive right after. And it was loud! The turbo is so much more louder right now, it's awesome. I can hear the turbo spooling between 20-45mph. Even with the stereo on I can hear the turbo and exhaust over it. I also love the looks I get when I'm next to an import at a light and slowly accelerate with the flow of traffic because of how loud the turbo is now. :D

I also installed the billet aluminum motor-mounts from www.fastfwdperformance.com. I deffinitley felt a difference with the new mounts. The new mounts with polyurethane bushings keep the motor from rocking back and forth under acceleration, so it helps plant the power to the ground faster. Accelerating is a lot smoother now. And I have less torque steer. A great purchase.

I'll try to get pictures tomorrow.

Yeah, its a nice booste you get with the k&n, both performance and sound.
Its good you replaced your bushings, because if you dont the engine can torque over and squash your K&N.  Happened to me.  Check your filter regularly, at least at first to make sure it doesn't loose its fit.  I dont recommend cutting any material off its end because it seems to weeken its clamping ability.  Cant take any chances with an open turbo impeller.

If mine does get crushed, which I hope doesn't happen, I can just go and buy the smaller RU-1760 filter.

Here's a pic of mine. I've had my mounts since summer.

I want to put in a vote/update now for not trimming at least the RU1390 air filter, and to correct a statement I made before regarding this trimming.  I just looked at some new RU1390s I got and K&N has now shortened the neck where it clamps onto the turbo inlet.  The older ones that I still have on my TGPs were too long and had to be snipped, but not the newer ones!  The old RU1390s had plenty of neck to trim away to make fit better, but the newer ones, surprise, have the same length as trimmed, so don't know if K&N was listening to us or someone but good news anyways.
