Title: TGP kept up with supercharged GTP
Post by: 90TGP on March 15, 2003, 10:43:06 PM
So for about the second time in my life, I let my friend drive my 1990 TGP. We were out cruising when we caught up with this really nice black 4-door GTP with chrome/polished 17-18" Eagle 77's [this is in the Boardman,OH area for you Ohio people.]. We couldn't get lined up at a light, so we just paced each other for about 1/2 mile down 224. I gave the driver of the GTP a thumbs-up for owning a nice GTP.

We later got side-by-side with a lot of room in front of us. The GTP floored it from abou a 45mph roll which made my friend have to play catch-up. My friend floor it, letting my turbo howl. The GTP was about 1/2 a car length ahead when my friend floored it. We stayed pretty much at the same spots for about 7-9 seconds when they both let off. The GTP was SLOWLY inching its self ahead, probably do to it having 35 more hp then my car does.

My TGP only has cone filter on the turbo, and no mufflers for performance mods. So maybe 5hp give or take over stock.

So the answer the age old question, a TGP is a good match for a L67 GTP.

I raced a stock GTP with my TSTE.  I've got 3 inch exhaust, cone filters, TG160 chip, fresh engine/trans/turbo, etc.  I smoked the stock GTP, from a stop, roll on, whatever.

Then I raced a modded GTP, smaller pulley (3.4 inch), cone filter.  We were next to each other until 40-45 when the GTP started inching past.  Then I shifted into 2nd, and pulled next to him again.  This went on for a while, but in the end he was only about a 1/2 to 1 car length ahead of me.  Not to bad.

You need a TG160 chip.  That will help considerably!!   Best $275 you'll spend on your TGP.

I'm currently saving up for the chip and the cross-x pipe. I have a DSM BOV ready to install, have to wait till spring for a friend to do it for me. I'm also going to buy a car sound cat, dynomax mufflers, and 2 1/2" exhaust. Also have to buy some guages.

I'm also trying to save up for a front mount intercooler and port&polished heads. And maybe later on, a T28 turbo [:D]

My old black TGP that would get a little tirespin on the 1st to second shift change would out run the 3.8 gt grandprixs, but the supercharged ones would pull away.

My more recent red gtp with the bad x-over pipe and probable boost leaks barely kept up with a newer se model. The kid claimed that he has a nitous kit and he didnt spray on it. I didnt get to chat too much with him after pacing him from 0-90 and back. Red light wasnt long enough.

edited for correct car.

When you say GTP you mean TGP right?  Because it is really confusing reading you saying GTP and then talking about bad x-over and not being able to hang with GTP's.

I raced a 98 GTP with nitrous on it.  He had me pretty good from a stop but i beat him 3 times from a 30, 45, and 60 mph roll.  :D
