Do you remember the ignition problems last year that I thought I fixed? Well I guess I didn't fix it.
My engine sounds like it isn't running on all cylinders for some reason. Then today my SES light came on once again. I replaced my O2 sensor two weeks ago, could it be that? When I installed it, it didn't look as long [the slotted part on the bottom] as the previous one I had. I replaced my wires with Taylors, and replaced my plugs with NGK Iridiums. I also replaced my battery when I bought the car.
Could it be the ignition coils? I know I didn't replace those yet. Do you have the parts number for the GM coils and the prices?
Would you suggest aftermarket ones? I don't know if the Accel coils are any good. I heard some bad things about those. And I don't know what the price on the MSD coils are.
Is your Xover pipe a GM one? As for your O2 use a ACDelco AFS-22 non AC one give false readings. Is your cat converter plugged?
Thanks for the ACDelco number, I was looking for that forever.
I'm going to replace my cat and cross-x pipe this spring with a car sound cat.
if you crossover is leaking then i can see not getting max boost, elevated engine/exhaust noise but would this also cause the false reading to the 02 sensor? I am gonna take my shield off and check mine out soon.
Your O2 sensor will read incorrectly if your x-over leaks. It will cause your car to run rich.
ahhhh! thus the black smoke when you punch it :D signs of a rich condition  I am gonna check it this weekend but even still I just don't have $400
Now I know this is gonna sound dumb, but this sounds like what my car was doing slightly. I fought a poor running, EXTREMELY rich condition and checked everything. Tried different O2, different coils (all), module, changed plugs and wires time and time again. I even went to the trouble of cleaning all the ground and power contact points under the hood. Put it back together after each and would run fine. Then all of a sudden it would shift all over the place, and run like dog poo. After 7 hours a VERY competent mechanic couldn't find the problem. Then he leaned on the right side elec center under the hood and whola, found it. He grabbed the wire harness and could get the engine to kill and then run great. I had to undo EVERY fuse terminal, wirebrush, and tighten it then reinstall it. This worked perfectly. I now have 2K miles on it and not even a burp.
To check and see if this is the problem, start the motor with the plastic cover off the right side wheelwell and wiggle the wire harness and take note of the engine condition!
Good luck
what cover :D Mine didn't come with one thanks to the prior owner. I need one though I have ps spray on my wires, ign coils and ecu cover all of which are relocated their.
sometime when its running, carefully grab ahold of the wire harness underneath the RS elec center and see if it doesn't change anything. Also if the ecm is getting PS fluid on it, that can't be good for it.
