OK, here is what it is doing. Under normal driving conditions the car is running GREAT. It's just when I get on the gas, I'd say it happens at around 3/4 throttle and the boost gauge is showing 10+, the engine SHUTS DOWN and a get a Service Engine Soon light. It doesn't die on me it just won't rev at all until I back off the pedal. After backing off the throttle, the car goes back to normal and the light goes away after about 5 seconds. I've checked all my vacuum lines and they appear to be good. What do you guys say? Any ideas? If someone knows what this is could they also be so kind as to also describe the location of the faulty component, I don't have a service manual yet and I'm still getting familiar with the engine. Thanks ahead of time on this one!
This is an "overboost" condition you are experiencing. Most likely the line running from the Turbo to the Wastegate Actuator Solenoid, or from the Wastegate Actuator Solenoid to Wastegate Actuator is disconnected or broken. If you find this to be complete and not broken then the Wastegate may be stuck or the Solenoid may be defective. Check the tubing from the turbo out and back to the turbo first... 8)
I agree with TGPilot, too bad it is such a drive, as I would fix it for you! :drinking:
I've checked the vacuum lines and they are good. Is the Wastegate Actuator Selenoid the one that is located right above the front valve cover? How much do one of those run at a parts store?
