Title: Cluster Repair Probs
Post by: R Dubya on April 02, 2003, 03:44:38 PM
Hey, the other day I took my cluster out and had the 14 pins soldered.  It took care of the check guages light, but the f-in low fuel light isn't repaired.  It wont go off and I got about a 1/2 tank of gas.  Anyone run into this prob?  Should I try it again?

Yeah, somtimes it doesn't take the first time. You may need to clean off the old solder as best you can and try again. I've had the most trouble with the RKE boxes, about 1 in 6 work for me.

That POS RKE box worked for me right after I soldered it, and then I tried to program the remote and it wouldn't cycle the locks!!  I guess I'll try to get that resoldered again.  I had a friends dad do it for me here in town, I just don't want to take up too much of his time.   :?   I've been trying to locate a new RKE (or used) to replace, but I might just buy a new one from Gm Parts Direct.  SON OF A - Why can't anything ever go smooth?!?!

I pulled a half dozen boxes from  yards that didn't work. So used ones aren't much better. Its just an age thing I suppose.

Just in case anyone needs it the part number for the RKE receiver box is 10063538.  Got this number from GMPartsDirect Customer Service.  It comes in at a whopping $102.69 plus shipping.

That might not be the right one though. If you look at the box out of your TGP the part # is 10063308. The one from my '89 is the same. Now the part # you found is actually for the '92? or '93? + cars. The one from my '94 cutlass has that part number and supposedly the terminals go to different things. I was told they control a couple other things (one being domelight supervision) and may not work in our cars. I have 4 boxes sitting here by my computer, 2 of each part number. Before anyone goes and buys a new box let me test them and make sure the other boxes will work. I'm thinking they should all work right because my GM parts book lists the part # you listed and doesn't even mention the # from our boxes.

would a box from a 94+ grand prix work in a TGP or actually would a box from any GM 94 - 96 work? if not can the wiring be redone to make it work?

'94 to '96 cars have the box that I was told wouldn't work right. But like I said I have two of them sitting here that I'm going to try today.

No, the 94+ and some 93+  boxes won't work. The wiring really can't be redone without rewiring the car. (to say that nothing is impossible, but its not easy) all the pinouts are different and some wires aren't there and others are there that aren't needed.

Know for sure ....? What?

Guess its unclear what to be sure about.

You should:

A. Order a new one

B. Try and repair yours again

C. Get a junkyard one

D. None of the above

?

I just wanted to make sure I was buying the right part.  That's $102 bux I'm not sure I'll be able to get back if it's not right!   :fadein:
