I've been considering doing the same thing.  It's a cheap mod.  It sounds like it was worth it :D .  Did you have a shop do it or did you do it yourself?

Some smaller local shops may do it..but they usually request payment in cash and don't give you a receipt.  8)

LOL! yeah i know.  i was talking about midas, meineke etc...  I asked them and they got all scared.  I was like c'mon man I am not gonna tell!!  I was actually told you are not even supposed to replace a cat on a vehicle with less than 80k unless it is totally rusted out or physically damaged.   They claimed it was a fedaral law.  I had 165K on my cav so they didn't have a problem. :D

I've heard that it was 50K for the law about removing/replacing the catalytic converter...but maybe you're right. Also in the south, most shops are more than willing to remove your cat for you although a select few will not. They also give receipts, but fail to inlcude "replacement of catalytic converter with straight piping" or the like...

I did it myself. I jacked it up used a air grinder to start a groove the used a sawzall with a metal cutting blade to cut the rest. I bought a 18 inche piece of flex pipe and one clamp( the pipe came with one clamp). It's leaking alittle so you may want to get a longer piece. I have 1/4 inch to clamp to on each side. cost me $9.02 for the parts.

the little leaks adds to the sound. from inside it sounds like a mustang is next to you when at a stop and punching it.

is this on a TGP?  I just have straight pipe with cat and its soooo damn loud!  I can only imagine what it sounds like when I remove that 14yrs old cat.

I used a sawzall to cut BEFORE the cat at a straight section, unhooked the rubber donut downstream and then used long drill bits to break up the guts. Then used a pipe to break for the final breakup up. I used a heavy duty shop vac to remove everylast piece in there...ie no rattle when hit.  A good flashlight with a BEAM will allow you to see clearly inside. Then a bought a butt connector, 2 clamps and done!  More pickup and a growl. Next the rear mufflers will be replaced by Dynomax 40's and tandem round pipes on each side, for a total of 4 pipes (3" ea).
