Title: turbo&clip?
Post by: TurboGTU on April 13, 2003, 12:19:57 AM
Does anyone know where I could get one of those clips that hold the TBvacume hoses together from blowing off? I used silicone to hold it but doesn't look to good and its messy.

Also who would have a turbo rebuild kit for this TGP turbo? All I need realy is the seals since the exhaust seal is leaking bad. How do I know, its been sitting on my shelf and the exhaust turbine is coated with oil. it was nicely carbon/ash coated when I took it off the car. And on the car it would smoke badly when sitting at a stop for long. Its not the return hose since it was replace when on the car when Chris, and all you guys sugessted it(thanks anyway). I realy need a seal or repair kit, I can't afford to send it to get rebuild. Thanks.

I don't have a bracket for you..but I have a related question. What holds that backet on to the TB? Because I blew mine right out of the TB yesterday! Scared the crap out of me!

The clips in time will break. I use a fine braided wire and run in around and under the fat line then foward to the nearest torx screw..it looks good also. It doesn't take much to hold it in place, although if we can get one stamped out of a spring metal , it would be a nice upgrade. good luck.

I sent my Turbo to Turbochargers in Dallas. After a thorough disassembly, cleaning and Magnafluxing the cases, the was a small crack. It was repaired and the after the rebuild, all seals, new vanes, the resulting product looks magnificent and operates smoothly. The turbo's go thru alot of heat stress and the crack would most likely go un noticed. They also checked the wastegate. This was expensive but worth it. They will give you an estimate. give it a shot.       http://www.turbochargers.com/index.htm

I did the same thing. It's almost blowout proof now. This is just about a must do even if you still have the clip. One backfire and you won't have a clip. Here's what it looks like. (third row)

You'll need an entire turbo rebuild kit...they don't make seal only kits.  Look on Ebay, www.turbocity.com and on the internet for a kit.  They aren't easy to rebuild, but if you have some mechanical aptitude you can do it.

I like there there t4/3 with t-3 flange supports 300hp which is exactly the # I am shooting at.  $395 and no core.

How much did you pay for the rebuild?

Title: Turbo rebuild
Post by: TGPRobNY on April 21, 2003, 12:51:51 PM
hello again  The final cost was about $760.  There was a $225 charge for the special welding/machining. Many times , if everything checks out, they can do a rebuild for about $300.  I also had the vanes replace and the overall product is great performing and looks like new. It's hard to iimpress me, but they did!  I have finished the motor rebuild and chassis detailing and it started right up with no leaks whatsoever! Best of luck

is it worth it to rebuild the M24? or just get the t-3/4 and get the proper flanges welded on?

I'm not familiar with the one you mentioned. You have to consider if its compatible with the original and also it has to be in working order, plus the cost of the welding also. Call Turbochargers.com and they will break you're old one down and give you a free estimate. If the other turbo needs repair or fails, you are back to square one again. Good luck[/url]

You mean a T25? That's the turbo the TGPs have in them  :D A T28/T3 hybrid would be a better choice. :) Supports more HP and bolts on stock. It's a bit pricey though.  :)

It really depends on what you need.

changing turbo sizes on a Speed Density system will require chip retuning since a more efficient turbo has a different VE (volumetric efficiency) basically  more air at less compression. So something to consider there I'm sure.

I wouldn't personally spend that much on a "stock" turbo for anything. But again it depends.

TGP t-25 is a M24!  Its stamped right on your turbo housing.

I swear I've seen M24 cast into other turbo housings too. I forget why its there, but its not a size designation.

Isn't that the nickel content rating or something?
