Title: Few problems w/ the TGP.
Post by: RedZMonte on April 21, 2003, 07:43:31 AM
* Boost is coming on but it "Surges" when under boost. sometimes worse then others. I did do a fuel pump myself and used a aftermarket gasket on the opening for the pump. and when i fill it to the top it spits out some gass. Is there anything there that could be a problem. (no vaccume pressure in tank, anything..) I allready did plugs and wires. and 1 coilpack was bad so i put a used one in and it seemed to help. should i try swaping them all out. I can take them off my monte for testing.

* Smells strongly of gass (think it relates to the gastank leak issue ;) )

* Boost guage, Cruse controle, Trip guage (on dash) don't work. I found a bunch of afro-engineered vaccume lines and fixed them. I also put a new Cruse Control modual and fixed the vaccume lines. but still no boost guage/curse.

* TONS of oil in the intake system. we replaced the PCV valve I assume it was plugged and blowing out the breather. so i pulled all the intake system off. Charge pipes, couplers, intercooler ect and ran it through a parts washer and wased the oil out off all the parts.

Could oil have gotten into the wastegate sullinoid and caused it to get damaged causeing power problems (boost surging)?

* Stock crossover.. you know the problem w/ it.

I had the same problem.  Oil all in the TB, intake, upper hose, and intercooler.  The hose that connects the tb and upper hose inside net gets saturated with oil and is not worth re-using.  I suggest replacing with a pure silicone unit.  I no longer get oil in my intake. I replaced the rear pcv which the way it looks was on there for 14yrs and the front is just a apc filter.

the coupler on the throttle body was pretty worn and i have allready replaced it w/ a 3" dual layer nylon reinforced silicone coupler.  I need to get a 2" one to replace the one from the turbo to the lower charge pipe.  the flexable silicone couplers attached to the I/C appear to be fine.

Could blowing oil into the wastegate sullinoid thing (on front valve cover) cause it not to work correctly giving me surges in boost?

well, i am going to try the "wastegate Valve" and see if that makes any differences it is only $18US :) . if this doesn't correct the problem then i will be pulling the X-over and rebuilding it :(

no need to rebuild the whole crossover.  jc whitney has the flex couplings for $19ea.  just buy two remove yours and weld then on.  Thats what I am doing.  Its just gonna take me some time I got sooooo much to do.

put on my ramcharger fans
move my griffin radiator
New fpr (aeromotive)
Ign control module
lower engine mount
front ball joints
ST new springs
addco rear sway
new armrest
2 new mufflers
new hi-flow cat
3" downpipe and the list goes ------------------------>

I just picked up a set of those.  They look real nice!  And cheap too!

And RedZ, there could be oil in the WG actuator.  Take it off and turn it upside down.  I doubt thats the whole problem though.  Did you use a timing light to check spark on all the plug wires?

Look at your oil return line!  :shocked!:  :drinking:

How long are the JCW flexes? I can get 4" long ones from my supplier.

I did use a timing light on all my coils and new wires. I initially had a bad coil. we replaced that and it helped.

I did put in a new wastegate "VALVE" (one that bolts to the intake manifold). I checked and it was only $18 from the dealership. and problem solved. Runs like a $100000 bux!

I am making a new X-over out of mandrel bent piping. the mandrel bends will help spool the trubo faster and be better flowing to increase the top end.  The jet coating will lower the underhood temps and keep the exhaust gases hotter.

I am going to make a 2.5" mandrel bent dowpipe w/ high flow cat. and when my tax $$ come back i am going to do a 2.5" mandrel Catback to a couple super trubo's or magnaflow's.

4" should do.  Its okay if the ends are a little to long because you can cut them off.
