Title: My car has been sitting for way too long!!
Post by: 90TGPGirl on April 21, 2003, 01:43:44 PM
I've had my TGP for about a month now.  Since it doesn't have a front end (YET) it hasn't moved.  I finally got a new battery in it today and started it for the first time in 3 weeks.  While I was under the hood, I noticed that the crank pully was nothing but rust.  I assume that's bad, so I'll probably get the ffp pully.  Also on order is the Top Gun chip, 160 t-stat, air filter and breather tube.
Since my car hasn't been driven in such a long time, is there anything else I should look for??  Thanx!!

How long is such a long time? Mine sat for at least a year and a half without being started or driven. What you have to look for depends on how long it's been sitting.

Check your fuel lines!!!!!!

The lines will leak over time at the crimped ends...between the rubber hose and the crimped end.  The rubber gets old and brittle and starts to leak.  All you have to do is start the car and look at the lines under the hood.  They are located right in front of the master cylinder unit.  There will be two of them.

If they do leak, you won't be able to buy news ones at the dealer.  The lines have been out of production since '97 or so.  You'll probably need to get some custom made.  There is a way to make a set of lines by cutting up your old lines and getting new hose and hose clamps.  If you want to know how, let me know.  I've done this to both of my turbo cars, and no problems with leaking fuel yet!  :)

Either way, it might be a good idea to carry a fire extinguisher with you in the car (like in the trunk).  Since the fuel lines are right above your turbo downpipe, any leak is a bad one!  Not to mention the TGP isn't some car that's easily replaced like a Camaro or Mustang...
