For Sale / Want to Buy / '90 For Sale Pics...
February 17, 2004, 06:59:27 PM
Hey All -

I'll try to email out some pics of the car tomorrow morning.  I should have mentioned in the listing that I work third shift, so it keeps me outta sync with almost everyone else.  I apologize, and I'll get them sent out ASAP.

Thanks !!

Hey All -

I'm selling my '90 TGP. It's black/tan, leather, pwr sunroof, stock am/fm cassette, RKE, etc. I've had it a bit over 5 yrs, and in the time I've owned it, I've had the wheels trued and re clear-coated, replaced struts all around (front ones x 2), car has decent tires, Jeff M. X-over and 160 (stg 3) chip and thermostat, and I've replaced ABS brake unit and lines (due to leaking rear ABS housing)with normal vacuum booster power brake setup. I still have all the original parts to convert back to ABS, including a good accumulator (replaced shortly after buying the car). Engine is smooth & strong, trans is strong, brakes are good. Rear calipers have new slides and are not stuck. Motor mounts are new within the past 2 years or so. Gauge cluster has been re-soldered and speedo calibrated, no more false warning lights, and speedo/odo/tach all work. I've also added the security lighting option using original stock parts from donor cars.

Overall, the car is in fair to decent shape and everything is functional, but it isn't perfect.

There is a ding in the rt. rear panel under the tailight. The rt. hood louvers are loose, it needs the retaining screw bases re-glued or resined back in place. Front facia is partially split in the front middle and sagging. Rt frt fender had a mooned-in area just behind the front sidemarker light, but I have a good used TGP black fender to replace it with. Also have some other body and interior parts that will go with the car, just haven't had time to put them in/on. Front seats show wear with a few cracks in leather, rear ones look almost new.

Appearance - Paint would look good with a buff and wax, but will probably need painted eventually. Still has all original TURBO badges on it. Car has about 175k on it, but odometer only shows 152k (it wasn't working when I bought it - see above).

Mechanical - A/C not working, I assume needs new/rebuilt compressor and recharged. Won't start in warm weather with key, but I have a solenoid jumper wire setup under the hood. I've tried to track down where the voltage drop in the harness is, but I haven't found an obvious cause. Starts fine with the key in colder weather, so it could be a weak solenoid. Engine cradle/control arm is still an issue, and I'm probably not going to get this corrected before selling it. It is a good, solid, almost stock TGP, with a few issues that do need some attention. I will try to get as many of these taken care of before selling it as I'm able to.

My reason for selling is simply a lack of time to do the necessary repairs to get it up to where I would like it to be, along with my family's financial needs, and the need for space. Main source of irritation is the starting problem, and it drifts to the right (caster problem from the right control arm being bent). I want to get all mechanical issues corrected that I'm able to before I sell it, but I wanted to be up front about what it needs at the present time. I have pics, and if anyone interested will email me, I can get you some in a couple of days. I was planning on starting with an asking about $1800, but will be open to considering reasonable offers. Included in this price is the GM service manual, original window sticker, and a whole load of extra parts, along with the original brake system parts I removed/swapped.

If I can't get any solid offers, I'm open to considering parting out the car, but I'd rather let someone get a good deal on the whole thig first.

Let me know if you're interested, I'm in the Central Indiana area (Anderson)

Thanks !!!!!

For Sale / Want to Buy / Junk TGP in Wheeling...
October 09, 2003, 06:25:09 PM
If somebody ends up getting this thing for parts, please let me know if you'd sell the wheels fairly cheap.  I'm wanting to put a set of the 8 inchers on my SSEi, with a set of 245/55/16's to keep the stock tire height for speedo purposes.  If I had the money, I'd buy the car, part the whole thing out and keep the wheels, but things are on the tight side right now.  Anyway, let me know if this works for whomever .....

Thanks !!!!

Hey All -

I don't know how many are aware of this, but I stumbled across a way to add the security lighting delay to my '90 TGP, possibly without getting too deep into the wiring.  I had obtained the door lock lights/handle switches (with their wiring) from a donor car at the junkyard, and later obtained a headlight/foglight switch with the security lighting delay slide all in the same unit.  Swapped the new light switch in and - presto !!!  I now have the security lighting option (headlights and dome lights stay on/come on when the key is turned off) .  I still need to get the wiring sections that connect the door lock lights/ door handle switches to the system in order to get the handle switches to operate the system and get the lock lights to light up, but this has been encouraging so far ... it appears to be a straight plug-in deal, with almost all the necessary wiring already in place... will post results when I get them completely hooked up.  Maybe not a big deal, but I thought it was kinda cool.  Any other info, or others who have already done this, feel free to let me (and/or the board) know.....

Hey All -

First off, Happy New Year !!!!!

I'm seriously considering selling my '90 TGP.  It's black/tan, leather, pwr sunroof, stock am/fm cassette, RKE, etc.  I've had it a bit over 4 yrs, and in the time I've owned it, I've had the wheels trued and re clear-coated, replaced struts all around (front ones x 2), car has decent tires, Jeff M. X-over and 160 (stg 3, I think) chip and thermostat, and I've replaced ABS brake unit and lines (due to leaking rear ABS housing)with normal vacuum booster power brake setup.  I still have all the original parts to convert back to ABS, including a good accumulator (replaced shortly after buying the car).  Engine is smooth & strong, trans is strong, brakes are good, but front may need new pads (I'll try to get that done when I replace front strut bearings later this month).  Rear calipers have new slides and are not stuck.  Motor mounts are new within the past year or so.  Gauge cluster has been re-soldered and speedo calibrated, no more false warning lights, and speedo/odo/tach all work.  Overall, the car is in good shape and everything is functional, but it isn't perfect.

Car has about 175k on it, but odometer only shows 148-149k (it wasn't working when I bought it - see above).

Mechanical - A/C not working, I assume needs new/rebuilt compressor and recharged.  Won't start in warm weather with key, but I have a solenoid jumper wire setup under the hood.  I haven't had the time to track down where the voltage drop in the harness is, but I'm assuming it is a loose/corroded terminal in the firewall connector body.  Starts fine with the key in colder weather.  Engine cradle/control arm mount is still an issue, but I'm hoping to get this corrected before selling it.  It is a good, solid, almost stock TGP, with a few issues that do need some attention.  I will try to get as many of these taken care of before selling it as I'm able to.

My reason for selling is simply a lack of time to do the necessary repairs to get it up to where I would like it to be, along with my family's financial needs.  Main source of irritation is the starting problem, and it drifts to the right (caster problem from the right control arm mount being bent).  I want to get all mechanical issues corrected that I'm able to before I sell it, but I wanted to be up front about what it needs at the present time.  I don't currently have any pics, but if anyone interested will email me, I can get you some in a couple of days.  I'm planning on starting with an asking about $2500, but will be open to considering reasonable offers.  Also, if this price is unreasonably high to start with (for those who are knowledgeable), please let me know and I will consider revising it.  Some suggestions of a fair starting price (if $2500 isn't) would be appreciated.

Let me know if you're interested, I'm in the Central Indiana area (Anderson)

Thanks !!!!!

Suspension/Wheels/Tires/Brakes / Front cradle dimensions?
December 10, 2002, 11:17:54 PM
Hey all -

Long time listener, first time caller.... Seriously, it's good to be back. To all who might remember me from past message boards, I say a hearty hello, and also to all those who might soon become better acquainted with me than they would wish. I'm glad to say that I'm finally finished with school, which is the main reason why I dropped off the radar screen for so long. But, (as always) when the need presents itself, I consult the experts.

I've been told by the alignment shop that I have a bent cradle, which has caused the caster on the right front wheel to be more towards the vertical than the left (the right axle centerline is farther towards the rear of the car than the left). This results in my '90 TGP tending to pull towards the right somewhat. I've replaced ball joints and had the toe-in set, but it still pulls right. I'm also planning on replacing the strut bearings, but I haven't gotten that done yet.

Now, for my question: I've looked in my factory manual, but I can't find any factory dimension specs for the front cradle. Does anyone have access to a diagram with the correct dimensions listed on it that can be copied and emailed to me? I seriously doubt that the cradle itself is bent, but I'm willing to believe that the mounting ears for the front control arm are. I'm hoping to get them straightened up to spec, then reinforce the ears to prevent this happening again. I figure trying can't do any harm, and it's cheaper than the $350+ for a new front cradle. I tried a junkyard cradle, but it had the same problem. If anyone can give a hand here, I'd appreciate it !!!!

Hi again, and TIA !!!
