Well, I have a 100 mile commute and, although I love my car, I dont have the time to fix it, nor do I really want to put money into something that is not worth it, monetarily at least.

I think I can get way more out of it in parts than selling outright. Currently, the tranny has been slipping a little bit going down the freeway. Enough to make the motor rev a little higher, keep the boost gague in the middle instead of the green, and decrease the gas mileage.

It just started leaking coolant, I havent investigated fully yet, coming from somewhere around the coolant reservior. Not the rad or hoses I can see.

I hit a tree (dont ask how) but I got a replacement right fender, bumper and FRONT SPOILER (brand new). I have not installed them yet.

Engine runs great. 112000 miles, x-over leaks (smell it).

New tires on the rims (5000 miles)

Interior is in pretty good shape. Only thing not working are the seats/cruise control vacuum options. Power seat adjuster on lower side works fine.

Radiator is re-cored and I replaced the power master and accumlator not too long ago. (1100 freaking dollars!!!)

The entire car, parts speaking, is in good shape except for problems listed.

I live in Upland, CA. 30 miles east of downtown LA on the 10. The car will be parted out in San Bernardino.

I would like to see what kind I interest I generate. If anyone wants to call me or email me, let me know what you want. If I get good interest in the next couple weeks, apart it comes. Sad but true.

Problems & Solutions / Real bad gas mileage
October 16, 2005, 10:33:48 AM
Hey all. Suddenly on my drive home today, the TGP started getting 15 MPG cruising down the freeway. The engine was working harder, and boost was at 0 constantly instead of well in the green like usual. The SES light flashed on and off three times as well.

I have newer plugs in it. I have been using 89 octane gas becuase of gas prices, other than that nothing different. Suggestions???

Thanks

Dave

Performance / The TGP is reborn!!
January 22, 2005, 08:41:40 AM
Well guys it has been a while. Been working so much I havent had a lot of free time. My 90 is almost done. It will look like when I was a kid, and I bought my first one when I was 15. However, I have decided to sell it. Two reasons. A stated by Jeff M, not enough aftermarket going around. These cars do have reliability issues. Second, not sure how the TGP would fare on it's smog check if I go crazy on the motor, or how the CHP would like any mods if I were to get pulled over and inspected for 50 state compliance.

Now check out this link. This is the sickest thing I've seen yet, especially the link below the dyno chart for the VIDEO! The TGP is reborn, with all the bulletproof attributes of the 3.8 and the moderness of a new car.

Ouch!!!!!!!! I have a solution for ya bro, you need to move out here to LA. Everyone else and their mom already is, join the bandwagon. I think it has RAINED four times this year, other than that it's all sun baby. Not to mention beaches, hollywood, parks, orange county, ventura county....bring the TGP home!

Slicks are the best. they are nhra's biggest handicap. if those monsters arent good enough for the 4000 hp, i dont know what else is. perhaps a back to the future pt 2 hoverboard?

HTGP? hover turbo grand prix?

TGP HE? tgp hover edition?

valid points. I can admit to not being fully knowledgeable on this ecotech motor.

however, applied to 8 cyls, more displacement is more power, period.

drawback? i dont thing OHC motors can run as gigantic of cams as the nitro burners run.

Finally, the LARGEST drawback to ANY motor putting down power, is TIRES. We need better/more.whatever rubber. ask any drager.....

I'll will disagree with that and prove it wrong. NHRA Top Fuel dragsters are meant for nothing but the fastest possible 1/4 mile run. They run a nitro burning hemi-head V8 with a blower. A blower is not a supercharger either. They are not 4 or 6 cylinders. They are heavily forged, multi ignition, etc etc. They run 4 sec 1/4's. The latest non V8 1/4 fastest ive seen is 8 seconds, could easily be 7 by now. Even if its 6, thats still a ways from 4 and will never get there. People are far too reliant on the word technology today. And with the "technology" argument, before a 4 banger runs 4 sec 1/4's we'll all be in hybrids, hydrogens, or flying space ships.

Take a drive through Beverly Hills or southern Orange County. Its actually sickening when you see so many, including Ferraris (one past me on the freeway the other day, a Diable did a couple months ago) because you want one and it takes so much to own one.

Sorry, as far as the post, I always go by the rule of thumb "theres no replacement for displacement". How much is the 3.1 really capable of, we can pump it full of all the boost and maybe nitrous we want to, but there is a limit both of physical integrity and physical space that fuel/air can be compressed.

then again look at how much ass a nissan skyline kicks with a TT inline six setup, so who knows.

One thing that true pros have is a decent, sometimes overwhelming supply of aftermarket parts. We do not. They can say there running, say, a Dodge 440, chevy 350, whatever. BUT!!! what they dont necessarily say is they bought a custom forged block out of Jegs, aftermarket fully ported heads, etc etc....not one part is a "stock" part. we have limitations, and are reliant on each others creativity, skill, passion for the project and ultimately the pocket book. So keep trying. Ill let you know what happens w/me when i consider myself well along. Good luck!

General / Website grammar
June 04, 2004, 07:48:24 AM
I said this on the sunroof post. Now the moderators will definitely see this. I would like to request a rule out of common courtesy on this website to type properly. The stupid slang spelling of words (or should I say "wurdz" for the ignorant) is immature and improper.

If you want to show you are obviously 16 years old, make your own TGP website. For the rest of us PROFESSIONAL adults, lets try to be more proper, i.e. normal.

To put it another way, I'll bet 10 to 1 the people who type "chatroom" and "IM" language have pennies on the dollar compared to the people who are serious about these cars. This means we are buying serious parts, tuning and testing, fueling this website/market while others get excited about their K&N filter and true duals they hacksawed themselves.

Think about it.

General / sunroof question?
June 03, 2004, 07:56:46 PM
Can we not use the improper english typing here? maybe make it a rule? It sure dosent have to be perfect, this is not what im saying. I'm referring to the "tha" and "cuz" and so on.

Its annoying, it takes longer to read and think about, and successful people dont speak or type this way.

Thank you

General / Ahh yes, reality check
May 14, 2004, 12:33:50 PM
This seems to be one of the biggest questions with the TGP, for myself as well as I am hoping for something of an investment.

Welcome to American Economics. The entire definition of what something is worth depends on supply/demand, and what someone is willing to pay. Books, appraisals, etc set standards and are great reference sources, but if   my TGP is "worth" $2500, but someone offers me $7000, hey ill take it and its worth $7000. That does not guarantee resale value though. Its like the insane housing market here in SoCal. The average price of a house in L.A. county is now $375,000 Orange county is $475,000. Yes, these are the houses you and me live in, 3 bed 2 bath 1 story houses, not the coastal mansions or bel-air estates. People keep moving here, 1 million the last three years alone, and supply cant keep up. The result is a bidding war and top dollar wins. If many people wanted TGP's the same would happen. but then, as soon as they want them if something bad happens, suddenly the market could collapse and they would be worthless.

Unfortunately there are still many of these out there and are not totally well known like a grand national. Also tell me if im wrong but the 15 year mark with cars is not a good one, too old to mess with but not quite old enough to want. except by us  :D

General / TGP convertable??? Jeff M or anyone????
March 29, 2004, 07:42:02 AM
All right, it's true! I wonder where it is now. In hemmings it was asking $250,000. If anyone has old hemmings laying around, 96, 97 era it would be worth looking into. Would anyone really pay that though? Even for a serious car collector that seems high.

I suppose it goes in the line of "somethings worth what someone will pay for it". Look at the Chrysler Turbine car. Chrysler has one in their private collection, and there is only one other one that is privately owned. That guy has been on TV, said its not for sale, but if it was it would be worth what he asked. Same with the TGP drop top.
