Thanks!   The windows are tinted, that's just the Colorado limit.  I could do the rear darker I suppose.

Going by the build sheet - it's been so long, I forgot half the stuff..
So anyhow, this is the parts list on this build sheet:
Tial Q black BOV
Garrett GT2871R .86 A/R, .53 inducer 76 trim turbocharger
30lb EV1 Injectors
Walbro 255 fuel pump
Battery relocating pieces and parts and a host of other things I'm sure I forgot.

Performance / Progress on my car.
December 28, 2014, 08:18:48 PM
I can't remember the last time I posted on this forum since my car has been in the shop for a very long time.   But there is some good movement now and I thought I would post about it - I'll post some pictures as well.    So the brand new Garrett turbo finally decided to show up, also installed new LS style injectors (sorry their proper description slips my mind at the moment.)  A Walbro 255 pump, new tuning once it's running, a new cross over pipe with a flex joint, a 3" down pipe was fabbed up from the turbo to just under the car where a new 3" flex and cat now reside.   While doing the down pipe, they discovered the existing cat was in pieces which might have been what killed the T3 I had before.  The battery is also being moved to the rear to allow for a better air intake and adding a sway bar.     Here are some pics for you, please don't laugh when you get to the last one which is the car this set-up is in  :icon_eek: :icon_lol:

I have more pictures if anyone is interested.  Would love to know what everyone thinks..

This may all be sold already - kinda late to see the post.  By chance do you still have the down pipe and the crossover pipe?
thanks,

For sure, Adam's been great.  This car was just stumbling all over the place before I found him.  It wasn't even remotely reliable or driveable.

@ Adam,  I'll text you as well, but here's the whole scoop.   Mark would like to change the plugs to iridium plugs and gap them down a bit first and also use better plug wires and route them properly instead of that giant knot that GM made with them up front by the exhaust manifold.   Then he'll get fresh data logs and get those to you..    So it might be a few days before I get the chip and the logs to you.    Thanks bud..

Thanks flybynite.   No complaints here bud, you've helped me out tremendously and I'm very thankful.  Yeah, Mark said we could get new data logs if you want to go another round with it.  I just felt like I was being a pain in the rear.   So, yes, thank you, I'll send you the one we just took off.         I hate to ask, could you send me your address please?  sorry...

GPChief,  I know the fuel pressure was tested and it was good.   I don't know what the numbers are though.   I did take the fuel pressure regulator apart and cleaned it (can't remember if I was able to find a rebuild kit or not)  I think they wanted an insane amount of money for the entire assembly including the fuel rails because they don't sell the regulator alone. So I just took the one on there apart and cleaned it.    I believe the 02 sensor is heated..  I know I had to replace the el-cheap-o gauge for one that was actually accurate for the data logs.    And all other sensors were replaced with new GM ones from the dealership when I did the rebuild.

I am concerned about the fuel pump though.  From what I have been told, the TGPs had a Corvette pump in it.  Is that correct?   Would a Wallboro pump be ok?  (I've had bad luck with Wallboro pumps on my Firehawk and went to an Aeromotive pump).     The pump in the car is maybe about 6 years old.  It was the last thing my dad had replaced before they gave up on the vehicle and bought a new one.

I've posted here a few times about my car.   I have a 1990 McLaren 3.1 motor with a slightly beefier cam and a T3 turbo installed in a different vehicle.   The motor was rebuilt along with the transmission and mechanically both the motor and the transmission are great.  The transmission has a shift kit with a 2800 stall converter and a final gear ratio of 3.73:1.   The ECM was tuned by getting data logs and having a chip made for the car by a gentleman here on this forum who he has been very helpful and patient with me.   My car wouldn't be running without his help.

The problem is the air fuel mixture.   At idle it's good, under boost it's always perfect, but when you first step on the gas it flat-lines and goes lean reading 000 on the gauge.  The shop that has been tuning this car, as well as PCMForLess (who would not make a chip for me)  has told me that it should be ok to drive the car lean as long as it's not under boost.  For the most part it runs really well, I will lightly step on the gas and as it gets going the air fuel mixture goes up. But it seems if I step on the gas other than feathering it, or if I have been driving it a lot and it's hot out, it will go to 000 and the car will bog down, creeping forward really slow and eventually taking off.  No backfire or anything that would tell me it's an ignition problem (the coils are new with new plugs and wires.)  Once it's off and running, the mixture is great and this car runs like crazy.  It's just when you first step on the gas.  The shop that works on it referred to this as "tip-in."  So, 2 chips have been made from data logs hoping to address this issue but the car is still having this problem and I'm wondering if it's a mechanical problem and not ECM related?

Could it be the fuel pump?  The pump is the standard GM in-tank used with the original 2.8 normally aspirated motor that came in this car.  The fuel filter has been changed as of when all of this tuning started.  The fuel injectors are 24lb injectors.  Tried bigger ones and tried smaller ones and 24lb was what the car seemed happiest with.

Thanks in advance for any help the anyone could give me.   This is really frustrating.

Thanks to everyone who replied.   I was able to find the part I needed through the shop that has been working on this car for me.  What I needed was the rubber elbow that goes from the throttle body to the charge pipe in a 90 degree bend configuration.  Thanks for everyone's input.

It's the rubber elbow that I'm looking for.    Sorry I wasn't clear about that...

Performance / Charge pipe to throttle body elbow
July 13, 2013, 02:17:54 PM
I damaged the elbow coming out of my throttle body today and need to get a new one.   Anyone know of a good place you can refer me to?   It's a 90 degree bend and very short.   Anyone have the measurements of the throttle body opening on these cars?     It's not a factory set-up so the factory parts won't work.  It's in a different car.     I'm having a hard time finding anything.

Thanks..

Chip Tuning / Re: Chip question
December 17, 2012, 08:03:46 PM
Thanks for the reply..   That sounds like the car it came off of.    I had never seen the AMAH before and wondered if it was off of a different vehicle.

TGP vs. All / Re: Tangling with a Corvette
October 24, 2012, 03:07:50 PM
No I haven't taken it to the track yet.  I have to sure up that softy "sport" FE3 suspension somehow.  I saw that Addcco makes a rear sway bar for it, and I have a strut tower brace that I'm waiting to put on it.  Didn't have any luck finding tighter springs for it, so I just replaced the struts and shocks.  I did instal rear disc brakes on it though.    I haven't even taken my Firehawk to the track for fear I'll blow something up or run into a wall or something  :icon_sad:

Figured out what was going on with the BOV though.   I took it to the guys that got it all running for me at Black Label Perf. and they determined that with the temperatures dropping here in Colorado, it was actually creating more boost than the 10lbs the tune could handle.   So it was not happy and at times it was a little lean, luckily not under throttle - but at idle sometimes.  So they're getting the data logs together now to send to Flybynite to burn me a chip.    Should be a little more powerful and maybe I can wave in that Corvette's window

TGP vs. All / Tangling with a Corvette
October 11, 2012, 06:03:29 PM
So old Eunice made me a proud papa today.. I pull up to this real pretty Corvette at a stop light that had been weaving around everyone, maybe an '07 - LS1 car at least for sure. Poor unsuspecting sap... I didn't beat him, but it sure must have been embarrassing to have a old 1987 FWD station wagon stuck to your rear bumper while you're punching through the gears. Oh I wish I had a video - that boy was pissed!
Strange thing though, the BOV kept going off even though I was on the gas... Not sure what that was all about but, I think I could've had him if it wasn't for that. Never happened before so, not sure if it's supposed to do that at higher rpms.. Is that the waste gate? Yes, I am turbo ignorant... But learning. That was fun!! Let's do it again!

Hey Flybynite!

Thanks for responding - I was gonna text you  :icon_lol:      So for two days now it has been the complete opposite.   Now it's idling at 1000 rpm in and out of gear.  It actually feels and drives a whole lot better that way but I don't know if that is too high.  If it is, it's probably more work on the brakes.  The temp doesn't seem to get past 110-115.   Even the huge "thunk" I mentioned that rattles the entire car when it downshifts to 1st just before stopping is not noticeable any more.  It's nice and smooth.  So I'm guessing that wasn't a trans mount issue, but a lack of vacuum issue maybe?  I stopped by Black Label and they said it should be around 700 in gear and 1000 out of gear but that it won't hurt anything.    What are your thoughts?   We checked the linkage on the TB and nothing was binding or anything.   The IAC is new as of when the motor was rebuilt.  It runs really nice now, maybe it's supposed to be that way??
