Performance / Ratcheting shifter for 4T60-HD trans?
January 28, 2016, 11:39:30 PM
1990 Pontiac Grand Prix McLaren

3.1 Turbo v6
4T60-HD trans

Is there a ratcheting style shifter that is compatible with the 4T60-HD transmission and its factory shifter cable control?

I want to be able to bump up or down without risking moving more then desired.
this way I can move from 1-2 to 2-3 to 3-4 one notch at a time more easily.
And preferable same in reverse order.

The engine and transmission are done being worked on, I just need the ratcheting lever so the car is complete and ready for racing.

Thanks for the help on directing me what to check.
The IAC would open but not close.
1 wire in the plug was intermittently broken in the plug eventually it pulled out and I found it.

Idle if fine again.

AAMCO did a transmission rebuild for me, but now a week or two later its leaking out where the driver side axle plugs in.

It only leaks in reverse, no leaking in drive.

When it leaks, it really leaks, like a river.

Is this something that can be fixed easily myself? Or am I stuck taking the car back for them to fix my transmission?

Update:
I replaced MAP, TPS, IAC and now its revving to 3K rpm instead of 2K rpm.
The IAC counts now go to zero and the idle is high.

However when I fully extend the IAC manually and unplug it, the engine will idle at 800 rpm according to the book. And it does.
I am stumped.

I checked it and its fine.

I am probably going to change the TPS and see what happens, nothing else really controlls the IAC and its only 20 dollars new. I hope this fixes it, I'll reply if it does or not.

I had one doing this recently.  Believe it or not, mine was the ECM.  For a while I just left the IAC unplugged.

I thought the same thing so I swapped the ECM and eprom both with known good from another car. No difference.

It works okay with the IAC unpluged and set to 1K idle, however it would idle better if it was computer controlled, especially when I run the air conditioning and stuff that drags the engine down.

Problems & Solutions / high idle, stumped.

90 tgp.
3.1 v6 turbo.
4t60 trans.

The car has a high idle right away after starting it.
I checked every vacuum line and evenremoved the top intake to check the plastic hoses.

The IAC seems to be opening up and not closing.
I replaced the IAC with a known good one and the same thing happens.

So I manually set it by hand for a good idle and left it unpluged
No SES light or codes.
EGR tested fine and is not pluged or sticking open

Cleaned throttle body, tested with turbo pipe to throttle removed, no boost at all.

I am kinda lost. What could possibly make this happen?
All thats really left to swap out is the IAT and TPS, and I do not have spares of those.

Performance / Re: What are your mods and track times?

nice.

My engine is still running the stock fuel injectors. T28 turbo upgraded.
Have it set for 14 PSI, however it feel slower at 14 PSI as opposed to leaving it manually at 10-12 PSI.

just for reference, what was your target AFR under WOT with the 15 PSI?

bump, I am interested in your specs and where my car will fall when I eventually do visit the track.

I need the PIN designators for the following from the ECM if someone can get those:

I added what I think these pins are, however I do not know if I am correct.

1) Air Conditioning Compressor Control (A12)
2) Air Conditioning Compressor Request (C17 or B12 ?)
3) TCC Solenoid Control (B7)
4) 4th Gear Input (D22)
5) 3rd Gear Input (D6)
6) 2nd Gear Input (C20)

Performance / What are your mods and track times?

I need something to compare against.

What are your mods to your TGP?
Turbo boost?
Manual boost controller?
Factory or custom tune?

What are your 0-60 and 1/4 mile times?

I have the 90 tgp engine/trans in a 90 Beretta, it is being tuned, I will not be able to take it to the track until next year and I am looking for some comparisons so I know what to expect.

I am running the 90 TGP engine, Adam's tune, and I am running about 14 PSI to the manual boost controller. (Max I can go on a 2 bar).
My tire size is 205-55-R16.

I need the Pulses/Mile For the transmission speed, MPH

I have the 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix Turbo, 3.1L turbo v6 LG5, and the transmission is the 4T60-HD with TV cable.

I need the Pulses/Mile for the vehicle speed.

Trying to tune and I do not have this information, I need it so that I am going the correct speed while driving.
Thanks.

I have an aftermarket inter cooler setup and it will be tuned.
Still the same transmission, shifts strong still. This thing has been maintained.

So you are thinking somewhere around 300 hp? Thats fine with me.
I'm not looking to go crazy, but I would like to get what I can (within reason) from this engine.
I know I am limited by the injector size.

This car is rusted bad though, so I am planning to use the engine in another car, lighter by about 1,000 lbs after the TGP rusts out completely.

What is the max boost pressure in PSI that the stock engine/turbo gets from a 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix McLaren Turbo?

How much boost have you been able to apply to the engine and it still works?

How much boost do you think the engine can safely handle? Even under dragway pulls?

I am curious as I have upgraded the turbo and plan to have the car tuned, the turbo I have can easily push the engine to 350 hp, but I do not want to accidentally damage anything.

I know there is a limit to the boost because the fuel injectors would need an upgrade at some point.

Thoughts?

Edit:

I am thinking of running around 10-15 PSI on a dyno tune.
I want to get some good power from the engine but in the same time, I don't want to go overboard on the stock engine.

Chip Tuning / Re: HOW TO: Tune TGP Code :)

Sorry to bump an old thread. But does anyone here know where to get a hold of this BIN file?
I can burn myself a chip if I had the file, My car is missing the MEMCAL...
