Chip Tuning / EGR disabling
June 29, 2004, 04:50:44 PM
Just got my TGP powered Z24 convertible going, although it looks like theres a big problem in the top end, will make another post later on about that... however, I think posting an "emissions" rom with disabled CEL's and stuff would be helpful, this way it's strictly for emmissions, and nothing else -- make the car run clean for the gov't, then swap it right back ;)

I've been trying to get this beast to live in my cavalier for awhile now -- still not taking to its new home, but getting there....  (Also swapping from its native 'auto' to a 5 speed that was standard on my Z24...)

Don't give up!

Never had one snap off on me, however, i'd have to say that air trick would work.  the gaskets the biggest pain, but it is an effective seal.  Only other place for air to escape would be through the oil drain tube / dipstick tube...  neat trick!

As far as dropping your oil pan, you've gotta pull the boston attitude trick, works every time "i pay to park, its parked, now get the f out of here"

How do I? / Block heater install
May 05, 2004, 02:28:30 PM
They do make remote car starters that can monitor coolant temp and restart til it heats back up to a certain point..  you just have to set the herestesis. (Basically its limits of operation).  This is probably easier than pulling the tranny but more expensive.

Yeah, i hear that.  I was running 0-60 in 5 second area just in second with a cracked x-pipe (obviously not seared in half as it is now!) and various other issues such as the motor flopping around the engine bay...  but, i've learned and moved on.

Any suggsetions as to how to route the oil lines for an oil cooler -- i'm thinking of cooling the oil that only goes to the turbo....  ie: the supply line coming out of the block, feed that to the turbo, and then let it take its course from there.

Any suggestions as to what to use for coolant and oil supply lines -- anyone have old ones?  I'd love to do AN type fittings but it seems like a lot of $$ and have no idea what any of them are or mean

Maybe i could have you make it 3 then  :D

I'm gonna get RedZ's Xover pipe, so after that goes in i'll be ready -- i've got one of the HM282 internal slave models though (not external slave like that)  which may pose another set of problems.  It looks like i'll be able to fab something up out of angle iron or something.  It'll be hack looking, but you can't see it anyways so its all good i guess.

Anyone have pics of how they made a crossover pipe support bracket?  Looking for ideas for mine! ('93 Cavalier Z24 Turbo 5 sp.)

I've tried getting hold of Jeff M for weeks now, can't even get any more than the automated response.  How much for one of the pipes reman'd?

How do I? / TurboZ24 (TZ2) sound clips!
May 06, 2003, 07:33:33 PM
Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that i got the car running correctly now.  Put up a sound clip so you all can hear.  The turbo is not connected to the intake yet, as soon as i figure out how to do that without paying an arm and a leg for the piping, it'll all be on the car.

I've also included a few pics to give you an idea of how much tighter the Cavalier engine compartment is as compared to the TGP.  Remember those nice 9" long dogbones you guys have?  Mine has been replaced with a 1 1/2" exhaust clamp!  (for testing) and thats not small enough!

Hopefully i'll see this thing go into the positive numbers sometime soon!

Tight quarters, Eh?
This used to be the 8 or 9" separator in the TGP engine compartment.  (dogbone strut across the top).  I had to grind the mounts so that they wouldn't hit when the motor torqued forward.

Performance / TURBO UPGRADE

I'm planning on removing abs, and removing the stock mount.

I ordered a '90 G/P 5 speed mount, which goes where the 'dogbone' mount goes on my car.  my dads friend is going to weld a new mount in place..

Performance / Would This Work???
February 11, 2003, 05:49:42 PM
It's illegal to resell catalytic converters whose conditions are unknown.  If their efficiency is unknown, theres legal issues, plus everyone would be using 'used' cats... and you'd just run into the problem of it breaking again soon anyways..

even exhaust shops have to hang on to your old converters for a short period as the government checks to make sure shops don't 'rip' customers off...

I believe the downpipe on standard 3.1's has a two-bolt setup, whereas the TGP has a 3 bolt 'header' setup on it, this may be an issue you'd have to have a new downpipe made up (or one made up with an adapter flange on it)  ...

I'm running a 3.1 turbo N/A right now, using a Cavalier chip -- however, as long as you've got no vaccum leaks, the car should run just fine under vaccum-only.  The resolution on the TGP (seeing as it does both vaccum and boost) isn't quite the same as it is on a normally all-vaccum engine (ie:  vaccum only engines can measure vaccum from 0 to 255 in computer terms.  TGP's measure 0-127 in vaccum, 128 is atmospheric pressure, and 128-255 is boost)

I just got rid of my '88 Z24 because of problems with this setup...  (i could have fixed it, however the car rotted through)...

Either way, make sure you've got all the air out of it first, www.v8archie.com (Fiero site) has a good article on how to do this...
