General / Good Price?
October 12, 2004, 08:42:02 PM
Actually, last time I checked the PMIII pricing, it's about $2800 new and $850 rebuilt by Prior Remanufacturing.

As for the price, I would really look closely at the body and interior, as well as suspension and brakes. $1500 is a lot for one the has a bad master cylinder and turbo. Those items alone will cost you as much as the car. I wouldnt give him more than $900 even if the rest was really nice.

Instead of replacing that solenoid with another junk factory one, just get a manual boost controller, run a line from the nipple on the front of the turbo to the controller, and then from the controller to the wastegate. Make sure you have a good aftermarket boost gauge and set the spool. VIOALA!!

Performance / Boost valve

I had a manual boost control on my TGP that I robbed from my Daytona. I also had my Greddy Profec-B electronic controller on there for a while. I like the elcetronic MUCH better, but for low boost on this engine(below 12psi) It's not "too" bad. Right now I have the stock chip, stock boost, and stock exhaust back on to conserve this trans. I've had wuite a few probs with trannies in my car(on lucky 13, which is slipping now, and yes most of them were rebuilt and done by well known trans gurus near me).

I feel for ya man. My TGP got nailed twice in 2 weeks, and flooded to the middle of the doors both times as well. My whole car looks like it got into  fight with a ball pein hammer and lost. Hood and trunk are shot, roof and quarters are going to take a lot of work, and the fenders are getting replaced anyhow.

Quote from: z284pwrUmm, I'm interested in this about having to modify the chip for a different cam?  I'm about to put in an engine with a lot different cam than stock, and when I read this it caught my eye....It is a lot bigger custom grind cam if it matters any?

Just like anything else, the timing, fuel and boostcurves need to be able to compensate for the diferent flow spec. You can get a little radical without a custom chip, but if you are getting a much larger grind, you will need to do some tuning for optimum performance. The timing curve is going to be the biggest part.

Race gas and lots of boost. I should be around 600whp on 93 pump gas.

I do my own chips. It was at first. Right now I have it running the stock chip due to the trans issues, and it runs alright. It will die every once in a while at a light(about twice a week). Nothin major though. It does however run a LOT better with the right tuning, just like anything else. Honetsly, if you are looking to replace a bad cam and want something a little more than stock, but want to retain the stock calibration, the Crane 2020 is about the best I can think of.

Already there, but I want ET's, so I am staying auto with a little work. I finally found someone to do this trans for me that can really take it to the next level. There is going to have to be a lot of custom parts, but screw it. I have the need for speed!!

Quote from: TGPilotMan a 2.8 would sound pretty amazing at 9000 RPM! You guys sound like you are really getting the numbers down...just need to find quality components that won't shatter at 9000 RPM...BIG MESS!! 8)

Call Lunati. I'm stepping into some work with them to get the rods, crank, and pistons done for mine. They are also going to do my cam.

With the destroked 2.8, I should be sitting right around 790whp. Now, to get the block to hold up to that..... Shouldnt be a prob, I've seen stock DSM blocks hold similar numbers, and my Supras were all about that.

That's how I'm getting there. I'm using my 2.8 core, and I'm actually going to destroke it a hair. It will actually be a 2.6

Good job and congrats! I have the Crane 2020 myself, and it's an excellent cam.

It's the International Full Size Jeep Association.

I use mine for towing and all kinds of stuff, otherwise I'd sell it to ya.
