Performance / Dynomax Ultra Flo or Magnaflow Mufflers
December 25, 2003, 08:06:29 AM
magnaflow is a really really nice muffler.

if you dont mind a louder car though and law allows just dont use mufflers and get some nice straight pipes with unresonated rolled 3" tips for the ends.  Also rip out the heat shields in the exhaust cut-outs in the bumpers, makes it look 100% better.

Performance / Replacing the Front Valance
December 25, 2003, 08:04:26 AM
i got the new bracket for the radiator support when I bought my replacement valence.  I didnt use it, as I couldnt figure out where it connected without another bracket.  I just used the original holes and drilled some new ones where the old ones ripped out and placed large washers on both sides to distribute the force.  The damn thing still ripped after I got into the winter for the first time.  I have yet to see a TGP in person where the valence didnt at least "droop" in the very front and center of it due to winter driving and the inability of the urethane valence to support its own weight on the plastic fascia.

General / NO Exhaust!...
December 24, 2003, 09:55:59 AM
no BOV, that sound is compressor surge.  Its deflected air charge blasting off the closed throttle plate and hitting the compressor fan and out the intake.  its not great for the turbo but on the TGP its not really a problem with automatics as long as you dont do it at WOT.

the sound is noticable on any TGP once you put a cone filter on the turbo inlet.  Ive noticed it on GNs and turbo Dodges with auto trannies as well.

Nope,  I slid into a curb in the early springtime during a freak icestorm and the last of the season.  the car and suspension were fine but the tire was slashed up and the lip on the wheel was bent and gouged.  I swapped on a set of Z34 rims from my buddies car and drove on them for a while.  I am including the damaged rim with the car, the passenger side front rim is fine but I didnt want to be driving with a 225/60/16 on one side and a 245/50/16 on the other.  The tire on the undamaged rim and the rears are pretty new cooper cobra Z rated 245/50/16s and only need one tire to make the set complete and the wheel damage replaced.  ive had estimates for about $100 to fix the wheel and the tire would be like $120, but I dunno i got a good hookup with the tire place so I always got my tires cheap, even performance tires.

The front end damage isnt that bad at all.  Just some emphasis.  I was moving BACKWARDS when the front of the car impaceted.  Hard to fathom but i was spinning and then started sliding with the rear of my car facing the direction of motion.  The front of the car impacted the wall first and then bounced off PULLING on the bumper more or less and then hit the rear bumper but there isnt any damage there.  The impact bar is good, the impact absorbers under it are good but loose, but def not broken.  I got REALLY lucky here.  The hood is bent a little bit in the corner, but other than that is fine.

anyways, im sending the pics i got out to a few of you. Ill take more tomarrow in detail of the interior and stuff.

listen to my old TGP here.

most are recorded under the hood, but damn the thing sounded even better outside the car.  I was trying to get the turbo sound recorded more, but the exhaust is still there.

NEW PRICE

$1200

$1000 if you can get it off my lawn by this saturday night.

hurry!  Part it out if yout want after you buy it.

turbo has no endplay and boosts great.
IC is mint still and so is the plumbing
the PMIII was brand new on the car when I bought it three years ago and has not given me any problems ever, only had to replace pads and rotors.

I dont want to send this car to the junkyard.

Thats funny.  The last day my TGP will be registered will probably be the 22nd. :(   After that its all 94 GTP for me.  Im happy to be getting something reliable and at least look nice since my TGP spun on me, but I really am hurting about loosing the beast and will miss the exclusiveness and the power.  Ill see what I can do with work since I got a week off from school, but no promises.  I would like to give the TGP a nice farewell with some W-luv, and maybe even sell the fuggin bucket :P

Ill be coming from Central CT

My TGP finally got away from my ability to maintain it with the funds and time I have availible for it. Im getting a 94 GTP to replace it and hoping to sell the TGP to someone who will appreciate it and be able to bring it back to some of its former glory.

Details:
1990 ASC/Mclaren Turbo Grand Prix
red, repainted by previous owner. Tan leather interior.
139,000 miles
Jeff M TG160 performance chip
Ractive conical air intake on the turbocharger
mufflers removed and replaced with straight pipe
160 deg T-stat
newer PMIII
Recently rebuilt tranny (6 months left on warrenty)

What it needs:
front valence and left headlight assembly
hood needs some work
brakes pads on rear(front are done recently)
some paint on valence and front left fender
some paint on the rear bumper
strut

The car spun on me on the highway when I hit an oil-spill and sand combination from cleaning up an accident on a blind turn while going thru hartford CT. I spun several times and came to a rest by hitting the front left of the car while moving backwards, then bouncing off and kissing the rear bumper. The front took only cosmetic damage from what I can tell and I have been driving it since then. The radiator had a small leak from the impact due to the aftermarket fan I have on the car and its mounting hitting the cooling tubes. I fixed this by using Barr's stop leak, which i know is a hack job, but I had to get moving again without paying the $3k for a replacement unit from pontiac. It has been holding fine since. The car also has a problem with the steering column tilt in which it doesnt tilt and just flops up and down. I have rigged this quickly with a simple bolt in the mechanism holding it solid. The brake pedal also sticks and does not return all the way up and you have to kick it up whenever the brake is depressed. This is an easy fix involving a new brake switch, but I really dont want to put the effort being on my back and under the dash to fiddle with it. I also bent one of the rims in a storm last semester so I am using the stock wheels in the back and have lumina Z34 wheels and tires up front. I have the broken rim and it can be repaired for about $100 because only the lip is bent and not the rim. The tires are recent 245/50/16s from cooper and are H rated. I am using the other unbent front wheel as a spare right now in my trunk. The driver side seat has some wear and the left side-bolster is a joke but other than that the interior is pretty damn nice. THere is a small electrical problem in the car involving starting it. I believe it has to do with some of the underhood wires as they have become very brittle leading to the starter. I replaced the starter but still the car will not start when it is hot out and the car is hot about 50% of the time unless I unplug the front fan by reaching under the car and unplugging and then it starts. about 10% of the time I just have to wait it out until the car decides to start. Probably a simple solution but Im a graduating college student and dont have the time to deal with learning GM electrical theory right now. THe driver side door handle snapped but that is an easy fix that I am going to remedy with some "liquid iron" or just replace with a junkyard part. Other than that the car hauls ass still and sounds better than any other car on the road. I can smell fuel when I drive hard which I believe is something to do with the fuel evap system purging under the hood and into the TB.

I bought the car three years ago in maine off this board. It will make a nice project car or a pretty complete parts car for someone. I am not yet parting anything out as the car drives fine and I want someone to drive it off my property. Maybe if someone fixes it up nicely Ill buy it back in a few years after I get my MBA for a nice price
