I have a feeling referring to your car as a "lemon" in your own FS thread is not very good way to ensure a sale.  Further you paid $8xx for the car, what car (especially a performance car) are you going to get for that price that does NOT have some issues.  Don't blame the vehicle.....it is almost 20 years old and has probably had a rough life.....be happy it is still around to move you

Good luck with the sale and sorry about the buyers remorse.

x2.  A 20 year old car with 160k on the clock that is supposed to be a performance oriented car that you are paying $800 for can't be expected to be perfect.  If it didn't need some work, it wouldn't have been sold for $800.

FWIW guys this is my dads car.  Car is actually in decent overall condition for a TGP, just has the usual problems they all do (brakes, crossover, valance).  Like he said, this has been his daily driver for 4.5 years and really hasn't given him any problems.  Other than the normal stuff he replaced (all the stuff he listed, alt, fuel pump, struts, etc...), it has been very reliable for him.  I'm sure there is someone here who could make it a very nice car pretty easily.

The TGP MAY have a different crank (I have yet to actually been proven this), but its not any stronger than the crank in the 3400 and is not worth your time switching them out.  I'll give you big props if u break the 3400 crank.  You'll throw rods and chip pistons before you even put a scratch in that crank.

I see, good to know.

yeah the plan is to either do the full 3400 top swap on the 3.1 TGP motor, or swap it out completely for the 3400 block and put the TGP crank in it.

Swapping cranks is pointless.  Either do the 3400 top swap, or do the complete 3400 swap.  The cranks in the Turbo engines aren't any better than the 3400 crank.

QuoteIt is no stronger than the 3400 crank plus if you do that you will change the stroke and need to get pistons with different wristpin heights I think?

Actually its the same stroke, 3400 just has larger bore than the 3.1, 2.8 is the one with the shorter stroke.  Still pointless though.

yes they will, you have to hollow the exhuast manifolds to match the D port on the 3400 heads, also modify 3.1 gaskets.

x2.  Its a VERY close fit, but it will work as long as you modify the gaskets and make sure you mount them up centered.

It will work just fine, just double check the clearance between retainer and valve seal.  You may have to go to a shorter valve seal or modify the retainer, but you probably won't even need to do that.

Not sure what crane cam you are talking about, but I know that with my 3100 heads w/LS1 springs/retainers that I have enough clearance for 1.6's on my h-260-2 cam.

OK, i haven't been on hear in over a year at least, but ive been very busy lately and because of this the STE has gone downhill significantly.  I don't have the time to work on it anymore, and in the last month I think ive driven the car once, it just doesn't make sense to keep it anymore.  It needs quite a bit of work, but definately isn't a lost cause yet.

Info on the car:  I got the car in Dec 2003 with 69k on the clock.  It was completely stock.  I drove it as my DD for about 2 years until I got another car to drive.  The transmission blew up and I had numerous trannys in the car since then, however the tranny in it now has been in there since Dec 2005 and is a GMGoodwrench crate tranny with a 3 year/100k warranty through GM.  It was also rebuilt by the dealer in Feb 2006 because the original tranny lost 1st and reverse after about 200 miles.  It works fine right now except the torque convertor randomly unlocks and locks sometimes while cruising in OD on the freeway.  I'm sure the dealer could look into this and fix it, but I just don't have the time to bring it in there and deal with it.  The car does have the factory CD player and a moonroof, but no leather.  The CD player works when it feels like, steering wheel controls still work beautifully.  The turn signals work without pulling them back and whatnot as well.

As for mods it has:
Open K&N cone
160 tstat
Topgun 160 chip
FFP UD crank pulley
3100 topend swap (small port 3100)
LS1 valvesprings
Crane H-260-2 Camshaft
AC Fins Mod
Magnaflow Mufflers
No Cat

The interior is in great shape except the headliner is in rough shape.  It has fallen down in the back and ripped in the front, basically a lost cause.  The drivers door panel isn't on the door right now because I put in a new door handle and never hooked up the rod so I haven't put the panel back on.  The clearcoat has peeled off on most of the hood but the paint on the rest of the car is in pretty good shape.  It is starting to rust around the rear wheelwells, but its not bad yet.  It probably would be pretty bad in a year or two if its not stopped soon though.  The passenger front window doesn't roll down, it worked last year, but the car sat for a few months and when i got it back out it didn't work anymore, so I'm not sure if its a switch or the motor.  The battery was new in December.  Spark plugs only have about 5k miles on them.

I have the complete original topend, complete with the "intercooled turbo" plenum and all.  I think the only piece missing to restore it to that is the upper charge pipe as I cut it to make it work with the 3100 stuff.

The car does need a new front head because the corner of the head broke off.  The motor mount bolts broke off in the block and were only fastened to the head and it broke the corner of the head off with all that force pulling on it.  I got the bolts out of the block and put new ones in it and whatnot, but the head still needs to be fixed.  All you would need to do is get a used 3100 head for it to fix it, but obviously you'd have to tear it down.  It uses quite a bit of coolant because of this (seems to just leak onto the ground though and not into the oil), so it would probably need to be towed, unless you want to bring a lot of water with you or something.

So as you can see the car is nowhere near problem free, but like I said, its not a lost cause.  I do think the price is right though considering everything, and its definately negotiable, so make an offer.

Here are some pics I snapped real quick, if you'd like more pics please let me know.

Thanks for looking.

Selling the topgun 160 chip and tstat from my STE.  Need to pay some stuff off so mods need to go.  This would be great to fix some drivability issues on a basically stock TGP.

Looking for $175 shipped o.b.o.

Selling the FFP Underdrive crank pulley off my STE.  This pulley is about 2 years old.  $110 new + shipping.  I had a bad tensioner for a little while so the belt rode 2 ribs off so there are some small grooves in the pulley from this, but obviously don't hurt its operation.  I will post pics tommarrow.

Need to pay some stuff off and obviously mods aren't too important, especially on the DD, so they gotta go.

Looking for $80 shipped.

lmao....do a search or something....

Do you have more info on what you want to do?  You want to turbo your '95 3100 with a T4?  What size T4?  What else is done to the 3100.  How much power are you looking to make?  How much are you looking to spend?  etc...........

thanks for the info, i was reading how less than 11.8 was pretty much junk, but i guess that pertains more to the stock ones. i was looking at the meter and starting to get quite pissed off

lol....yeah for L36 injectors you should be fine.

Needs tranny work, slips in second and third.

lol sorry had to laugh... maybe this is one of jeff M's 400+ hp grand prix projects he has done LMAO...

sorry back on topic, that must be your car as listed on the website, seems that the motor has had some decent work done to it.

Yup one of his 400hp+ GP projects, which obviously worked out really well since it needs engine and tranny work.  When I read that I was definately ROFL.

Really? Are you sure about that? How long do you think his motor will live on 20+ without some internals upgraded?

With a good tune I don't see why it shouldn't be really reliable on 20psi.  Nobody has ever really pushed the limits of the bottom ends of these things so I don't know exactly how much power it should be able to stand up to, but with his turbo and intercooler I really can't see him having a detonation problem so the only issue he might have at that kind of boost is strength of internals.

I think Adam (flybynite) already made a 3 bar patch.

Are you planning to run that much boost? I hope you dropped the compression ratio if you are. ;)

8.8:1 is plenty low enough for 20+psi boost with the setup he has on his car.  Since he would need a 3 bar at over 14.5psi, I don't think it would be a bad idea for him to upgrade, just my $.02 though.
