Performance / TGP TO restore
January 28, 2005, 10:42:19 AM
That is the first kit out there for the 3.8 and theres going to ge lots of improvments with other kits in the market. If I could recomend the Stattama racing kit is probably the best on the market. The stattama kit produced about 418 whp ona grand prix gt with turbo kit and 1.9 rockers everything else was stock. I think the GT produces about 145 whp from factory.

Performance / Thansk to everyone
January 16, 2005, 09:24:42 PM
I want to thank everyone for making me feel welcome and I will keep everyone posted on how it goes.

BTW it is my street driven car I even drive it to the track and hope ( as far as 1100 miles, but of course its not my daily driver

Jeff thats quite the garage you must have and like most on here I also want a typhoon and just may get one at some time. We already have quite a few very fast 3.8's in our team like a GN thats 40 over and lots of performance parts ( too many to list) that should run low 10's maybe even into the 9's with suspension work and a SC gtp with l36 bottom end and a l67 top end to figure out.

Ive been working with the 3.8 motor and am actually specializing in it. I own Attention to Detail and Tune and I do all sorts of custom porting and polishing, SC tunning and just about everything you can think of when it comes to performance.

thanks to everyone

Performance / interested
January 16, 2005, 11:20:41 AM
Quote from: no1kickerThe L67 swap is pretty common.  I don't think anyone has put in a 3.8 turbo into an 88-96 GP.  That would be insane.  Then we could keep the turbo badges on the car.  8)   I'm definately interested.

I'm glad to see interest. I just hope there's more on here who would be interested in doing something like this to their GP.

I used to have a z34 so i've been into the 3.4 DOHC motor and am interested in turboing that at some time I guess im just not sure how well the aluminum block would handle it.

My motto is:: possabilities are endless you just have to make it work.

Performance / wrong place
January 16, 2005, 07:57:50 AM
Quote from: dbtk2Well, first off, let me say this is not the place to be.  Our setups are completely different than yours, you would be much better off at club gp.  Second off, I'm hoping you want this as a race only car right?

Also, there really is nobody here making much power at all.  Jeff M claims to have cars making a bunch or horsepower, and he could very well have them, but he could very well not have them, but anyways, if he does have them, he is really the only one going faster than mid-high 13's.  Jud is in the 13's (not sure about whp though) and according to my G-tech my STE is in the 13's, but nobody here has gotten that involved.  There is a guy with a Z24 Cavalier running a 3.1 running low 12's, but that engine is really built.

You have to remember that we all have 15 year old cars here.  Most of us bought them for cheap (like $1-2k) and don't have lots of money to dump into them, which is why not many people have gone fast.  I am pretty sure nobody here has run that turbo.  I'm sorry we can't help you, but I can really tell you this is not the place to be.  I would get on ClubGP and probably contact ZZP or INTENSE with questions on building a Turbo GP.

Out of curiosity, what all did you have done to run the 12.2?  My dads '02 GTP runs 12.0's with the stock cam/stock heads and with an M90, so I'm just wondering what all you had done to do this.

I know and am a member of club GP and also a few other forums but I stumbled apon your forum and said what the hell I should be able to kinda fit in   One thing I do know is that others will probably be posting about there L67 or L36 turbo setups.

I pulled a 12.2 with very little tunning so I know I could have pulled some 11's out of it.  I had a intercooler, XP cam, springs retainers poshrods, TOG's, Race pcm with race ICCU, MPS with 2.55 pully, 42.5# injectors, 8 rib conversion, light weight crank pully.

HAS ANYONE HERE SWAPED A 3.8 INTO THERE EARLY 90'S GP?
I KNOW THERE ARE A FEW THAT POST IN CLUB GP

YOU GUYS HAVE A VERY NICE FORUM HERE AND I WONT BOTHER IF NO ONE HERE IS INTERESTED IN ANY OTHER TURBO GP OTHER THAN EARLY 90'S. I WILL STOP POSTING BUT I FELT I COULD INFORM YOU GUYS OF DIFFERENT THINGS PEOPLE HAVE DONE TO THERE GP'S.

THANKS

Performance / Re: right but... somethings missing

Quote from: BlackdOutLuminaSSseems about right but a turbo that big only looks like it'd be good for racing only. And the superchagers can do more then he's giving them credit for because just by adding a smaller pulley and machining out some of the internals of the SC, im sure,  can do alot.

It's not as simple as just adding a pulley and gaining massive power, you need supporting modifications.  The M90 is decent if you want to run 11's/12's(I'm aware that one has powered a 97 GTP to a 10.8 1/4 mile run, but that's w/ weight reductions and every other modification known to man), but after that, you really need a better supercharger/power adder.  Also, GTP's are doing those times with basically turbo kits/tuning/exhaust work(stock heads, cam, etc.) vs. the supercharged cars needing more stuff to do that.

mfewtrail

couldnt have said it better myself   My SC setup made alot of power. Dyno'd at 335fwhp smoothed 401 fwhp peak  and 469 ft- lbs TQ and ran low 12's in the quarter not tuned in. Im sure the sc setup I had could do mid 11's but a turbo the posabilities are endless.

Performance / L^& turbo
January 16, 2005, 07:32:24 AM
Quote from: Jeff MWell, not sure why you would ask here :?  :).    We have a 3.1L motor and you have a 3.8L motor, different bore, rod/stroke ratio numbers too will not compare to a 3.1L, along with the turbo cam that will work with yours verses one for our 3.1L.  Much different intake and exhaust also makes a comparison difficult!  From the 60-1s and 62-1s that have run well on the 3.1L motor, I am going to say your differential gearing might need to be changed, your higher stall converter is really good, still the multiplier of even a 3.29 might be a better setup depending on your rpm at the top of 3rd when you cross the line, a 3.69 very well could be too much.  Playing with the gears to keep things in your engine?s sweet spot is a key ending to a sweet build like this 8) .  Turbo is the way to go once a supercharger can?t keep up with your hp fix, and too many mods with a supercharge to try and make up for the need of a bigger blower/turbo, which comes in many more flavors than a supercharger.  I have a T70 on my Typhoon but its a 4.8L motor and again, shares little with my 3.1/3.2L turbo motors or your bad-boy 3800 :P .

But bottom line, you are comparing 2 different animals even if they both have 6 cylinders  .

Good luck 8) !

Jeff M.

Hey Jeff M
The gears are stock for now and I will be playing with them within time but as of now there just stock ratio. I posted on here because even though I added my own turbo its still a turbo gp like the rest of you guys, :D  just a different motor. I'm willing to bet there will be more newer GP comming on here with there turbo cars also.

Performance / 2000 L67 turbo GTP
January 15, 2005, 10:15:24 PM
I have a 2000 GP GTP and as most of you know they come supercharged. Well I have a nicly modded SC'ed GTP and have sold all the parts to become a turbo gtp with a l67 engine. I guess I'm going turbo because the SC could only go so far where a turbo can reach much higher HP.

Major mods are 68-1 turbonetics turbo, 30"-12"-4" Air/Air intercooler, custom aluminum IC piping, custom header made for turbo ( not just one made to work), f-body intake ported and polished, custom heads with bench numbers with over sized valves, 4 angle on intake, 3 radius on exhaust, ported and polished, viton seals, comp 105 springs, titanium retainers, custom push rods. The XP cam is gone and replaced with a custom cam for turbo, along with a custom 3500 to 4000 stall for turbo config. The fuel system will be a walbro pump modified, 60# injectors, billet fuel rails, rewired.
Trans has alot also done to it including complete rebuild, raybestous clutches, 3500-4000 stall, input shaft, 2.93 gears (stock), shift kit, trans cooler, LSD differential.

When the car was supercharged it ran a best of 12.201 @112.63 in the 1/4 and 8.821 @ 89.27 in the 1/8. Now with the Turbo im going for around 580 FWHP and 700+ ft-lbs TQ and run a 1/8 of about low 6's and 1/4 in mid 10's at around 135-140 mph

HAS ANYONE ON THES BOARD RUN THE NEW 68-1 TURBONETICS TURBO YET?
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE HIGHER 3.1 TURBO'S PUTTING OUT TO THE WHEELS?

HERES A GOOD PIC OF WHAT IT WILL LOOK LIKE BUT BIGGER TURBO AND INTERCOOLER AND WAY MORE MODDED
