Problems & Solutions / Turbos T25 and T2
February 18, 2007, 03:19:40 PM
Here is my current problem situation! I hope someone can give me some answers.
I have a T25 from a tgp which needed a rebuild. so I got my kit and proceeded with the process. When using my puller to remove my turbine the brim of the centersection decided to give before the shaft. "Bummer........I just broke my freakin turbo!" O well, after throwing some wrenches at people I calmed down and starting searching for some turbos. I found two (what I was Told) were two Garrett T25's from a 300zx. both in excellent condition. I met with the guy and compared my turbo to assure they would work. They looked the same other then the compressor and exhaust housings. "No big deal I say", "Im using my compressor and exhaust housings off my T25 anyway, all I need is the center section". either way even if they werent going to work, hell for a $100 I didnt care. So I bought them and proceeded to dismantle the turbos, rebuilt one of the centersections I planed on using. Decided that the turbines from the 300zx turbo where in better condition so I used them instead of the ones from my T25. cleaned off my housings and slapped it back together. I noticed one thing, the exhaust turbine wheel didnt look right in my exhaust housing, seemed too small and indeed it was! Crap.......I figure! soo I dismantled it again to see if the compressor turbine was the same size, it was. I did some research and come to my surprise I had purchased two garrett T2209. The only difference I can see from a T2 and A T25 is the compressor and exhuast housings allong with the exhaust turbine wheel. Which leads to my questions

1. Q:How much does the balance of the turbine wheels play in the performance of the turbo?
I really dont like my compressor wheel from my turbo and really would like to use the one from the T2.
Could I use the compressor wheel from the T2 in combination with the exhaust turbine from the T25? Would balance really be affected?
2. Q: Why is the oil drain so large on the T25?  will reducing its size really make a difference in lubrication?

Some people might suggest I just use the exhaust housing from the T2 in stead of swapping the the turbine. I would except that I dont have the down pipe for the T2 exhaust housing, and Id rather have the larger exhaust turbine.

Let me know what you can fellas. Thanks

For Sale / Want to Buy / looking for engine
October 06, 2005, 03:53:30 PM
found out a local junkyard had a 90 tgp sitting in the yard, car was pretty
stripped, the whole cradle was missing so the engine was sitting on the ground.  They were asking for $500 for the engine. I didnt buy it. searched a little more and had no luck. I called back and said how much for the entire car. they wanted $850. I then asked how much for just the engine, I told them it had been sitting on the ground and theres a possibilty of the oil pan having a hole in it. so they sold me the engine for $250, I also grabbed the radiator and intercooler for another 45 bucks. unfortunatly the pcm had already been ganked. the wire harness cut in many spots.  steering column was missing, interior a mess. it made me sick to my stomache but atleast I got the engine complete with turbo! later dudes thanks for the help

Im looking for an engine complete with turbo set up, I defenitely agree an entire parts car would be my best option but its hard to find one.  I was recenetely visiting my grandparents in Nanty Glo PA when one of my dads old buddies came up to vist.  I struck up a conversation with my dads buddy.  he then started talking about two grand prixs that he had back at the house. as soon as he said i have an 89 and 90 grad prix with a 3.1 Iliter I immedately said " turbo charged engine"  thats right.  I couldnt believe it. im hunting for a whole car and heres this old man with two, sitting  there. not being driven.  I drove back to his house with him, hes walking around the car telling me all the options it has and showing me the interior, lol im like I dont care, pop the hood so I can cream in my pants!! refuses to sell, bummer. Just thinking of getting a tgp enine in my beretta gets me all excited
