For Sale / Want to Buy / I know
June 29, 2004, 08:26:34 PM
I had alot  of trouble selling my TSTE, also 145000 miles, it ran great,
no problems. Even on EBAY, the best offer I got was $1600. The
person that got it didn't know or care it was an TSTE, just a nice
grand prix.  I the 2 door cars seem to  get the $.

Problems & Solutions / unbelievable

I will add my info too, a few years ago my TSTE was also non-turnover
from time to time, It was the big electrical connector under the dash,
removed the bolt, took it apart and  put it back together, never acted up
again.

Now my 98 GTP starts doing the same thing for about a week, I
re-seated the connector, yesterday, so far so good. what are the odds
I would get two cars with the same weird problem

didn't think I would set somebody off with that post. Like was already posted, if you added up the raw #'s, 25hp for pulley, 8hp for exhaust, 10hp for cold air/K&N cone, >10hp for new ECM. it's well over my conservative estimate of 40,  I assume all those #'s are at the crank.
Next week end the restrive DownPipe and CAT are being replaced.

It just amazing how GM strangled that cars performance, two restrictions in exhaust, supercharger pulley.

I must admit, the TGP does seem to want go fast with less peddle effort,
maybe it's the 3:29 gear ratio, or just the peddle return spring, or travel distance. But push come to shove, with the peddle hard down, the GTP goes much faster.

Years ago, I rented a "vericom?", one of the early "G-tech" boxes for measuring acceleration. I thought it had a formula for multipllying the weight of the car by to estimate horsepower, does anyone know of such a formula. I plan on taking GTP to track next week.

Not that i am complaining, but I am amazed the EBAY  bidding on the CD player from my turbo STE has gone so high. Can anyone offer a reason why? I came so close to just putting it out in the trash.

With no bids on the car, maybe I need to just tear it apart and sell it piece by piece. Other than the high mileage, does anyone see something negative in the STE listing?  guess the 2 door red/black ones are just more sporty.

Problems & Solutions / cheap check

if you pull the ecm fuse for a few mintues, by the drivers strut tower, and then disconnect the O2 sensor, you can eliminate the Xover as the main issue. If the car drives okay without getting into the boost, then Xover affecting O2 is main supsect, after changing plugs.if it still runs crappie. you got other problems.

the STE backseat holds 3, the two door TGP has bucket back seats, so car can only haul 4. THE turbo STE has an anoying beep associated with the ABS the the 2 doors don't have, from what i have seen on post.

General / my own 2 cents

Now that i have both i can answer my own question. But it's not really a fair comparison, as the TGP is not much more than stock, a chip that just advanced timing, K&N, 180 stat, manual boost control, no CAT, and 140k miles.  My GTP is at least 40hp up from stock, MSD coils and wires, DHP, CAI, K&N, exhaust, 180 stat, 3.4 pulley.
The GTP wins hands down, after a week of the GTP, I got in the TGP, i almost rear ended somebody at the first stop light, big difference in brakes. Maybe its the tall gear ratio or torque of the 3.8, but that car just seems to want to go with such little peddle effort. And the thing just flies from 70mph, downshifting to second due to DHP, up to 90mph.

For Sale / Want to Buy / 90 turbo STE for sale
December 25, 2003, 09:25:26 PM
it's time to end the 10 year relationship with my car, sad, but a GTP has become the order of the day. with two teenage sons, wife and I, have  4 cars, just cannot hang onto the TGP.
Located in central FL, Palm Bay to be exact. Has 144,300 miles, white  with gray cloth interior. no HUD or sunroof.  Has Jeff M crossover, A chip, made by superchips in orlando in 97, before I ever heard of Jeff, boost limit unchanged, has more aggressive timing advance.  K&N panel filter in stock airbox, manual boost controller. Much quicker than stock. Shortly after the chip, the flywheel cracked and was replaced, turbo charger was replaced at that time as well.

Door and rear speakers replaced, stock CD player stopped working, replaced with GM cassette radio, steering wheel controls work, looks just like factory, but the bass boost in the door stopped working.  Rear brake calipers replaced, performance friction pads all around. Accumulator and pressure switch changed, ABS and brakes work fine. After sitting overnight, it does take 20secs for the pump to bring the system up to preasure first thing in the morning, but its been like that for years, i don't remember it taking that long when i first got the car. All struts were replaced at about 90,000 miles. Resistor fix for tach and speedo accuracy performed, check guages light fixed. In 97 i removed the injectors, sent them to be cleaned and flow tested, had to replace one. After market keyless entry.
After I purchased car in 93, with 43,000 miles, pontiac dealer put in short block under warrenty, have papers. After breakin, have always used mobil 1. Have always used synthetic trans fluid and changed every 25-30k miles. trans is working just fine, no hint of any problem.
After market rear spoiler with LED brake lights, the paint is okay, chips on hood over turbo, and on roof, and scratches here and there. Interior is very nice, only carpets, leather on shifter and steering wheel show wear.
Vent visors over windows, brake dust shields on front,  tinted windows, rear defroster.

Every thing works on this car. It drives and runs great. Last summer i took it to track for the first time, I posted on this forum. And i just took it on a 360 trip on interstate while looking for GTP.
sure there has been the usuall items over the years, coil, antenna mast, alternators, plugs, wires, AC evaporator, distributor block off o-ring, did i mention alternators, etc.

$1900. email perrytime@inter-networks.net

How about you snow birds, fly into Orlando or Melbourne, I'll pick you
up, and you can drive home after the snow has melted. maybe not as cheap as a rental car, but you get to keep it.

For Sale / Want to Buy / doesn't bode well
December 16, 2003, 09:02:47 PM
I just today purchased GTP, so my STE will be going on ebay soon. I am in florida, and the lack of interest on this STE makes me wonder if mine will sell. poor time of year, if it doesn't go, maybe just try again later.

Does anybody know if stock wheels from 1999 GTP will work on 90 STE?
with or without some sort of spacers or adapters

The chip still has boost cut out at 9.5lbs?, running as close to that as i can get, don't have an accurate boost guage. I do have CAT removed. finished at 88.4mph,  1/8 mile time was 10.126.
