1989 Pontiac Turbo Grand Prix #257  99,000 mi

Owned for 8 yrs. Red with tan leather interior. Driver seat cushion has wear areas, all other seats are fine and working. Carpet is original with no wear areas. Headliner assy removed due to fabric sagging. Sunroof works great with no leaks, AM/FM/Cass works fine with new speakers. Dash works but "check fuel lite" is intermittent and the IC was resoldered some time ago.

Outside the paint is very presentable with only a few dings and the paint is deep and not faded and recently polished with 3M Finesse. There is some road rash on the frontal edge of the hood.

Wheels are almost perfect with 3 that were hi-speed balanced and required no weighting! The lips were stripped and polished and shine easily with "Mother's"  Tires are Hankook and are a year old. Tremendous gripping on wet turns with an aggressive "V" tread pattern, new rotors and loaded calipers.

Mechanically: Overhauled the lower end 2 yrs ago. New TGP specific crank, line bore, new bearings, seals, timing gears and chain, Jeff M xover, all new engine sensors, wires, Re-built turbo, alternator, waterpump, new Prior Mfg rebuilt ABS Master cyclinder, New 4 row radiator core, K/N air filter and cover breather, new stock coils with a recent Ignition module/dock, new 7 yr Sears battery, dogbones. Stainless steel dual 3" exhaust tips per side.

I have all service, sales, Turbo supplement and the rare audio cassette with this car as well as spare parts which I have to go thru.

I'm selling this car because it overheated and it will probably need head work and I want to move on. This is a rather simple straight foward old school repair since it's a rocker/pushrod design and in my estimation worthwhile to undertake and most likely under $1000 with new injectors. This car was running 2 days ago after passing a tough NYS inspection. It was very quick and fun car to drive with great stopping power.
I'm located in Rockland Co NY 10984 and very accessible. I can supply hi-resolution pics to your email address. I'm entertaining offers around $1,500. May be interested in audio eq trade. I will not part out. 845-429-1000 Prefer phone calls over endless emails. Thanks, Rob

Problems & Solutions / Re: smoking at idle
April 06, 2006, 08:43:11 PM
There is usually too much oil pressure going into the turbo in the first place. Billowing clouds of mosquito killing smoke then sometimes it disappears. Pulling plugs show no evidence of oil and it lays in the exhaust system and it will eventually burn off once you put a restrictor in. Good luck

Problems & Solutions / Turbo rebuild
March 31, 2005, 08:10:21 AM
Had my turbo rebuilt about 2 yrs ago by Turbochargers.com and now it passes oil thru the exhaust side and of course blows blue smoke down the hiway. The oil return line was replaced (Jeff M) and installed a new KN airfilter. Can anyone advise a good facility for a rebuild or know where I can get the internal cartridge and I'll do this myself? Thanks in advance.

Hi   Looking for a replacement turbo for my TGP. Had mine rebuilt about 2 yrs ago and replaced the oil return hose w/Jeff M and now it's starting to blow oil again. I figure I'll buy a second one to use when I send the other out for rebuild. Thanks everyone.

Suspension/Wheels/Tires/Brakes / Tires
February 14, 2005, 07:43:27 AM
I'm using Hankook Ventus II and they are  great tires with a long warrantee, amazing adhesion on wet pavemet (perhaps due to the center groove) and quiet. They are also not expensive.

Have you checked the solenoid operation? Does it get voltage to actuate the wastegate?  Does the SES lite come on?
