For Sale / Want to Buy / Re: TGP cd player
July 14, 2008, 05:57:58 AM
I recently bought a CD Player from eBay for my 1990 TGP that's supposed to fit & work with it, but as my car is still in a work shop for other reasons, it hasn't been installed yet.

I posted pics of this unit I purchased in another thread here (http://www.tgpforums.com/index.php?topic=4737.0) a while ago, and was told by TGP forums user pontiac6ksteawd in that thread that it should fit & work completely 100% -- steering wheel controls and all.

Then, recently, I found a picture of some TGP's interior with a CD Player in it but it's clearly not the same unit I have. I'd like to have the best possible "Stock"/"Factory" CD Player that fits my TGP, so I'm very curious and wondering if flybynite / grinders_18 could post any pic(s) of the CD Player that just changed hands between them.

Or at least please let me know if it was one of these that I'm posting a pic of each here -- in which case please specify which one.

The unit in the top pic (that's not installed) with the two analogue turnable knobs is the unit I recently purchased, and the unit in the other pic (that is seen installed in some TGP) is some other CD Player.

The mounting bracket on the right side will work completely. The bracket on the left side will need to be taken off. One 10 mm bolt, take it off, then take the one from your current radio, and put it on. Done... Or you could drill a hole in the bracket for your mount too. Either way, it will work completely, and flawlessly. Steering wheel radio controls and all.

Thanks for all the info and tips, pontiac6ksteawd, this is all so very much appreciated!

Man... I'm just very happy to hear I've *at long last* found what I've been looking for!

You seem to know quite a bit about the different radios that fit a TGP, could you tell all this from just looking at the pictures, did you immediately recognize this particular unit, or did you just determine its compatibility from how the connector sockets on the back view pic look like?

You said the steering wheel controls will work when this particular unit is on radio mode, but not when it's playing CDs, I wonder if at least the steering wheel's volume control works when playing CDs, do you know...?

I'm hoping to receive this in the mail in about 2 weeks, I'll then have it installed and can let people here know how everything turned out.

Welcome to the board and good luck hunting down a CD player.

Thanx, mfewtrail.

After almost 2 years of searching for what appears to be a fitting unit for my TGP on eBay, AND a seller that is willing to ship internationally (that's been the hardest part so far for some reason, although I haven't had trouble buying all kinds of other things on eBay from the states, like electronics, DVDs, comics, you name it...), I think I did it!

Check these pictures out, I saved them from an auction which a friend of mine just helped me with and won for me, do you guys think this'll do the job (at least the seller said it'd fit Grand Prix models from 1989 to 1993, and that the only thing that might need just a little work is removing the "mounting brackets", which he said is very easy)??

When I get some time this weekend EliteTGP, I will scour thru ebay, and see if I can find you a CD player that will work in your TGP, with the steering wheel controls. Question thou, do you want the exact radio that will work in your TGP, or just one that works? Also, do you have a 89 or 90, makes a big diference.

Welcome to another out of the US TGP. Welcome indeed.

Thanks, pontiac6ksteawd.

Well, yes my TGP is from the year 1990 like I said, and what I'm looking for is a CD radio that:
- Fits my radio slot perfectly, so that the interior looks like it should.
- Works with my steering wheel controls.
- Has the same look as the rest of the buttons in the car (red lights), so that it doesn't look "out of place".

So in conclusion, I think that I need a "stock" unit (a "Delco" radio?), one that is supposed to be used in a Grand Prix.

And thanx for making me feel welcome here! :-)

This is my 1st ever post here in the TGP Forums! I never got an e-mail letting me know if I've been approved as a member (I applied for membership May 28th), but as I'm posting this now, I guess all is good in that regard!

I'm an otherwise *very happy* TGP owner all the way from Finland (I purchased my TGP from Switzerland 2 years ago), but I *DESPERATELY* need to buy a stock radio for my TGP, preferably a CD version. I currently have *no radio* at all in my car whatsoever since the original stock cassette radio was completely broken when I purchased the car :-(

I have absolutely no idea which model sold on eBay could/would fit my 1990 TGP, but member pontiac6ksteawd here said he has "5 working TGP style cd players", does he mean he has the stock version?

And just like Bullet, who started this precious thread, I really want to buy a stock factory unit that came with the original car and can be operated with the steering wheel controls.

I am willing to pay top dollar for this and can pay via Paypal, or Personal Check, Wire Transfer, or even sen US cash in a letter -- I don't care, I just have to have this thing.

I am an honest buyer who can be trusted, I have an eBay account with a 212 all-positive feedback record.

Please someone, let me know if you can help. At least let me know what model currently on eBay I should buy, if you can't help me directly.

Thank you very much for your time in any case....!
