My car ran like a rocket, in fact during hard acceleration it would abruptly hesitate and then kick in and the SES light would come on and then go away. I got home and coded and came up with #31 indicating overboost condition. This makes sense because of the previous amazing pickup and hi "turbo boost" reading on the guage. Now it does not cut out upon hard acceleration and the "turbo guage" does move but won't go in the green above "0". Now it seems it could use more pickup. I will buy a Topgun chip soon. I redid the motor/turbo/xover/rad/ and used a KN on the intake. I used to smoke the front tires easily but now it won't. Any thoughts, Rob

check for any unhooked vacuum lines and unhook your battery and clear the computer, then do a relearn on the computer. If you still have a problem pull your plugs and regap them, as you most likely detonated and colapsed an element on one of the plugs.  :drinking:

I heard someone here mention that the map sensor had gone bad cuz it would run rich. So...when you said that the boost gauge doen't go up pass 0 psi,,,my initial though was that the map went bad or the hoses that connect to the map poped lose. Yea idbeast is correct too. My brother once had a plug ground itself(no gap) on his turbo 2.3l. Looked like a piston might have hit it or something but it was caused by detonation.

Hi everyone!   Thanks for the suggestions.....The car runs fine, but it didn't have the "kick" like I was used to. Upon further inspection,. I found the lower hose from turbo to intercooler was loos and everytime the turbo kicked in it would seperate from the intercooler.  It's amazing to see how much air the turbo pushes thru the intercooler and actually stretches that lower hose. It has to be on tight!

TGPRobNY,

What did you do on your engine rebuild?  and different parts used? (pistons, cam, boring .01 .02 .03 over?)  Am getting ready to do a rebuild on mine, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Thomas
