Heading home from work last Sunday, I was going down the 105 east bound here in Sunny Los Angeles. Low and behold heres one of those new Lancer Evo's....

These things are fast. We were actually both just toying around on the freeway, together but not in competetion. Sunday is the only day in this traffic cloged place that anyone can have fun.

Anyway...we started toying WITH each other...He'd blow by me but that was with a jump on me. When he passed, I could easily keep up with him, maybe even pass him if I wanted to get real crazy, but you never know where the CHP is sitting and I dont feel like getting a $1000 ticket for going more than 20 over. Yes, $1000. Its $300 for less than 20 over.

Yes, I here about driving safe, but this is L.A. If you guys want to have a lot of fun driving, this is the place to be. Mind you, you WILL get your ass handed to you because there are a LOT of fast cars out here.

But the TGP will hold it's own. And that makes it all the sweeter for winning.  :D

Don't take this the wrong way but if you were keeping up with an Evo then one of a few things is true.
1.  You have a LOT of mods on your car.
2.  The Evo was REALLY just toying with you.
3.  The Evo driver didn't have a clue what he was doing.

Those cars run a 13.4 stock.  Not many TGP's out there can do that.

Exactly.  Your TGP shouldn't be as fast as that car.  I raced a Lancer the other day and beat them in my STE, but it was a regular Lancer, not an Evo.  I know damn well an Evo would hand me my ass.

no, no mods on my car at all. the only thing about my TGP is its one of "the faster" ones as in some were better than others. This is my third one.

Personally i hate imports, he probably was just playing around i am well aware of my car is capable/not capable of.

just sharing an experience.

What i really like is, not a TGP, but damn fast. Puts the import boys in their place.

best time of 11.4@127

street legal sleeper. Sure it's a muscle car, a different class than tuner, maybe even consider TGP tuner. but theres no replacement for displacement, and the bottom line is THAT car is damn hard to beat. I just cant use its full potential on the street, then again no car that fast can.

Are you sure it wasnt a Lancer OZ Rally edition? They look similar. I have to call BS otherwise, because a Lancer EVO would hand even Jeff M's TGP it's ARSE!
90 TGP- Mods, yeah I have them...

I know of a couple "tuners" cars that would hand you your ass with no problem in that car. Neighbors Supra for starters, 9.68 1/4 and yes, its street legal. The replacement for displacement arguement is old and tired. Not trying to dis you or whatever, just stating a fact. So sick of the V-8 arguement. And I know at least 4 Subarus that would also spank you in that car. One being a SVX, one being a Loyale hatch, the rest being WRX/STI style.

As I said, not trying to dis you, I also like the camaros, roadrunners, cuda's. But the newer cars, with some mods, can easily keep up with these older cars. I have a 69 Camaro SS/RS, Chevrolet Orange with factory stripes. with 29k original miles, sitting on original tires, body, and everything (except windsheild wipers). And I love the older "bubble back" Cuda. Just cant seem to find one. I would still take a newer model FI car over the older ones, dollar for dollar that is.

Nice safe smart fun, I love when the road clears and you got someone who enjoys playing within limits, done my share with some fun cars 8) , lost some won some but we were both grinning and feeling the adrenalin buzzzzzz  .  Very well could be you kept up with a turbo/EVO version, those excellent 0-60 times and ? miles have a lot to thank from the way it can launch (60 foot times and all that!!!!) so on a roll or cruising good chance if the right rpms are hit for you, that you can keep up for a little while!!  Its great to look at the times for today?s bad-boys cars and compare to a middle of the road fast chip?d TGP running 14.5 to 14.7 and 0-60 in 5.7 to 6 second or less if you know how to manage traction:

New Grand Prix GPX with 290hp/325lb-ft said to do 6 second 0-60, may be better a launch/60-foots since the front tires are an inch widder than the rears  not sure if they are up to a nice wide 245mm though 8) .  There will be some fast ones that get sent first to the magazines for testing but those are always tweaked and picked out from the better engines coming down the assembly line (same for the EVO, WRX or whatever).  I was at one of the big GM engine plants in Michigan and saw them putting new engines on the break-in dyno, the guy said hp and torque ratings can vary all over the place, and real sweet motors in a first run are set aside for magazine testers, and the occasional exec for their personal car.  Anyways, checking out the FIRST EVER SCENTED DIAPERS, ooops, I mean FIRST EVER G6 GT tests from the mags show 0-60 is 7.9, quarter is 16.1, wow those diapers kick ass!!   Next up is the new Saturn Ion RedLine, a rather light car running 205 hp and 200 lb-ft but only runs a 0-60 in 6.75 and a worse 15.33 quarter which is the same quarter rated for a stock TGP way back when. Latest Suby tested ran a 0-60 in 6 seconds and a 14.8 quarter, same as most chip?d TGPs. Next is the ultra 4 cylinder that GM wishes they made running in the new RSX Type-S, 0-60 in 6.2 not bad :) , 14.9 quarter seems oddly slow though. The list goes on but I got no time I just like talking about seeing how well our 15 year old cars and their owners are doing against today competition.  Like said, lots of variations so really not good to get too carried away comparing acceleration times of cars   there are faster cars, always have been, always will be 8) .

Happy Holidays Everyone!!

The argument may be old, but it holds true. Check out the fastest dragsters 4cyl vs. V8.  I'm not coming from the standpoint that "bigger is better," just stating fact.  Yes, there are alternatives to displacement to make smaller engines compete w/ larger ones, but when you apply those same alternatives(nitrous, supercharger, turbos, heads, cams, etc.)  to larger engines, the larger engines prevail.

Matt, that's well put, same tech to the big blocks and power levels through the roof!  Wonder what could be done with F1 technology considering they make 1,000+ hp from under 2 liters, though big blocks don't spin 12,000 rpms  .

off subject slightly...the best part of F1 is coming in March 2005...

Rule change...Each engine must last for two complete Events

Reason: a two-race engine will give less power than a one-race engine.

QuoteIn summary, all three packages involved bodywork changes to reduce downforce, new tyre rules to require ?harder? tyres and a reduction in engine capacity from 3.0 to 2.4 litres with eight cylinders. Of the three, Package 1 gave the most aerodynamic freedom but imposed maximum restrictions on the engines; Package 2 gave less aerodynamic freedom but slightly fewer engine restrictions; and Package 3 imposed further aerodynamic restrictions but gave the same technical freedom for the 2.4 litre V8 engine as the current 3.0 litre V10.

This should be real interesting

Jeff M

So did you put a smiley face on your turbo's nut or is that just me seeing things??  Wonder if anyone else noticed it, in your avy that is  .

My nuts are always happy and smiling!

I didn't put it there...but I suppose if you look close enough it looks like a Jack o' Lantern smiley face. 8)

bad driver.
look here:

they're trapping high so i think it has to do with traction.

guess what my next car may be.
