Anyone have a Pontiac Jeff cold air intake???

Why is it so expensive. I'm sure any home mechanic could buy their own partsand build one for way less than that.

It's an actuall cold air intake, not a short ram. And it uses existing holes on the car to bolt it on nice and tight. That way you don't have a ghetto dryer intake, white pvc pipe intake that's going to rattle all over the place.

I'm not saying it isn't a good intake but that's a little steep for me. I wouldn't mind trying one though to see if they help any.

Sure, but mandrel bent pipe isn't cheap, and i think he uses a good grade, then has it powder coated black. Getting all the welds lined up and the enclosure made and it adds up quick. I spent $100 on  a REALLY cheesy intake a few years  back and it wasn't very good. I think Jeffs is like $250 so it really isn't bad considering how well designed it is. I haven't seen anyone come up with anything close besides Tom oconner and his wasn't very cheap either.

OK, with mandrel bent pipe and the powder coating I can understand the price. I didn't realize it was mandrel bent and wasn't sure if it was just spray painted or not.

FYI - Injen SRI for the Acura was $250.  I don't think the CAI price is that bad.

Save your money temporarly.  Some people are working on a homemade ramair set up with moving the battery.  If testing goes well we may either sell the kit or sell instructions for it.   Way less than $250.00  Not taking anything away from Pontiac Jeff, I'm sure it is an exellent product based on his reputation.   We just know some of us are on a budget. :idea:

What i was thinking was to make two scoops directly under the radiator (drivers side) and pipe both pipes into an airbox for a K & N cone, size depending on cone of course, and from there pipe it too the turbo. Problem #1 I don't know how to keep the engine from heating up the intake (same goes for the throttle body to intercooler pipe).
Problem #2 I don't know how to make a good aerodynamic scoop, or with what materials.
Problem #3 I am not sure you would get the same amout of air flow. I'm not sure but the biggest pipe you could fit through the two around the edges of the fat electical wire would be around 2.5in diameter each. I have The K & N 6" RU-1770 in the open right now and i am not sure it would get the same volume of air. Of course the turbo opening is only 2 to 2.5 inches right?

If you have any answers/solution to any of these three problems i would definaltlely appreciate the input.

You can use turbo wrap, header wrap, or AEM intake wrap for the intake pipes.

The quickest, easiest, cheapest way to do it is NOT to remove the battery, but to remove the intercooler and use the factory rubber turbo inlet hose pointed down with a huge K/N on it and heat/water shield (custom fabed) and put the intercooler in front of the rad. where it belongs!

Now if anyone is interested , I know someone who will build a custom front wing out of aluminum for $350. I'm gettin one as soon as I win the lottery!
