Hello all..

As many of you know I am doing a 5-Speed swap in my TGP. The donor car's previous owner had epoxied the shift boot plate into the console trim piece and there is no way I can work with this. I need to find a boot and boot trim piece or the top console trim that surrounds the shifter and the trip computer. I will pay for it, or maybe we can trade for something. The trim surround comes off pretty easy...there are two 7mm screws hiding in by the ashtray door and the rest is held on by clips up under the trip computer screen (no other hidden screws). The shift knob had thread lock on it so it may take some hand strenth to get it to un-screw, but it is screwed on. Hope someone can help... 8)

hello, i have a 5-speed shifter plate & boot from a '90 Grand Prix.  it came with my Getrag 282 when i did the 5-speed conversion on my CS.  i ended up using a console from an '89 Grand Prix so i have no need for it ('89 and '90 apparantly have different consoles).  i have a whole extra shifter from a '90 GP also.  i'm looking for TGP parts, ecspecially the x-over and rear exhaust manifold.  i am in Laramie, WY, 2hrs North of Denver.

Name your price. I need it as the boot and plate from the donor car is looking ugly. If you have a PayPal account let me know and I will shoot you some $$ otherwise let me know your address and I will overnight you the cash. I don't have any TGP parts...some GP SE parts, but they are getting thin... 8)

malibuolds...what do you think? Only thing I used from you was the trim plate. I got the boot done at a local interior shop...he made it out of real soft leather instead of vinyl.

it looks way cool, your interior is imaculant, how is it that your steer wheel is in such good condition, my is very beat up. Speaking of steering my car is kind of tough to turn, there are some times that i need two hands, is this right or is my pump going out? Thanks,

Yeah, Waskie, and my Vette has a Seven Speed, so what do you say to that!!!!!!!

I still like the TGP, cause it is kinda fun to point and shoot, just point the wheels where you want to go, punch it, and hang on cause you just kicked a buckin bronko with a hot poker!

By the way, folks, the conversion really looks great, he did a bang up job, and deserves all the praise and credits for a 'Quality is Job 1'.....ooops, wrong car line, but you get the point.

Thanks for the praise...I'm glad you guys like it! :D I enjoy it very much, but now I have nothing to do to the car. It runs like a top and everything is done that needs tinkering...    I guess I need to find a winter project car. Waskie definitely took very good care of the car and made it easy for me to keep things looking good.

Black Phoenix...you should not need two hands to steer your car. Obviously check the fluid level, and I would even change it out with clean stuff before going after the pump or the rack.

I though it was a little too stiff for a Grand Prix but i figured maybe it was special for TGPs. Anyways i checked it when i got it, and it was way too low, i filled it up, but i was wondering if there was possible pump damage. Thanks,

If it was run dry it could cause pump damage. What did you fill it back up with?

Waskie, no joke, it is a 7-speed forward, and 1 reverse. What it is is a Doug Nash Muncie 4 speed w/ auto-overdrive. That vintage (84-88) was available with an automatic overdrive which activiates in the 1-2 shift if enabled, so 2nd, 3rd, and 4th have dual range, so they call the setup a 4+3 manual. Effectively, the overdrive is in op in each gear 2-4, and the gearing is such that there really are 7 distinct selections. (makes crusin easy, since you don't have to row as many gears, but they're there when you need 'em)

The car has so much torque, that for everyday chugging around, OD is acceptable, but when I mash the go pedal, it automatically drops down 1/2 gear, which instantly brings the engine speed up into the torque band, and that combined with the throttle response and torque of the TPI L98, makes for a pleasant surprise launch when passing!

Next time you come through KC to see the Chiefs loose, give me a shout, I'll show it to ya!

oh shitttt! I bought a 89 ste non turbo 4dr center console with 5 speed shifter, cables etc.....  I hope its not that different from my 90 model.  I kind like having the fake navigaition glowing in the center.  Is it that different?  It won't be here until next wed so I have to wait
