I didn't want to hijack someone's topic so I started this one.

In the quote below are we talking about the small switch in the drivers door that turns the door speakers on and off?  I think it's labeled "performance sound" or "precision sound", something like that.  I thought that was standard on all TGP's?  It's in mine and can make a very noticeable difference in the sound quality when on.

How many people have this in their TGP's?

Also, as for switches, I've also put some in the little ash tray place in the center console.  It takes some fabrication to get them to fit correctly though, they don't fit snuggly by just putting them in there.

That's pretty neat, I've never seen the "precision sound" switch in any GP's..can't realy tell what it is in the TGP picture...but if other factory cars had that, then that is probably what it was.  I need to look through my GP stuff and see if I can find anything about that audio option....to fit my switches in the cigarette lighter cubby, I took my air die grinder and cut a hard piece of plastic from an old console(out of a parts car), painted it, and then removed the center console piece and used some small self tapping screws drilled into part of the console right underneath where the ash tray/cig lighter sat.

We had the switch in both of our 88 GP's, but I've never seen it in a TGP. I know mine doesnt have it, and the only option I thought I didnt have was the CD player. I could be wrong though. Then again, I've neer seen a 90 GP with that option, but have seen quite a few 89's...

It was in the 88 and 89 SE models. The TGP's did start as SE models. It was discontinued after 89 though.

what exactly does it do?  does it really turn the speakers off or is there some sort of amplifier that it turns off or something?

LukeZ34

All it does is turn on the external amplifier for the door speakers. It doesn't enhance the sound or anything like that, it just adds the 2 extra speakers. BTW, it's 'Performance sound', not precision sound.
