Ok, first off let me start off with I know that G-techs aren't 100% accurate, and I do plan on going to a track to get a real time, but I just wanted to get a ballpark figure for how quick the car was (even though I pretty much knew already). Let me also mention that I g-teched the car when it was stock and got a 15.334 @ 89.74 and when I took it to the track it went 14.986 @ 91.79, so it isn't that far off, and it appears to be slow. Anyways, its just for a ballpark figure so its not a huge deal.

So my friend and I go out, calibrate the g-tech and get on the road I used before to G-tech when my car was stock. The road is a flat 2 lane road that is about 2 miles long between the stop signs, and it has little traffic, so it works good. Let me start off by telling you car condition. Car had 7/8 tank of gas. Rear tires were at 32psi, fronts at 30psi. The boost was at 8.5psi, I had a 30lb. battery in the back seat on the floor, my friend and I both had our school books (20+lbs. together), and my friend weighs 180lbs. Obviously spare tire and all that stuff was in the trunk. (plus my tools that I always keep in there) Here are what those two runs turned out as:

1st run:
60': 2.319
330': 6.083
1/8: 9.253 @ 79.32
1000': 11.975
1/4: 14.279 @ 98.65
0-60 in 5.753 seconds

2nd run:
60': 2.226
330': 5.993
1/8: 9.163 @ 79.14
1000': 11.890
1/4: 14.204 @ 98.11
0-60 in 5.665

I was happy with those results, I was expecting about a 14.3-14.4 with all that weight and everything, so the results were about right. So, I said, fuck this, I know this car is a lot faster and is capable of 13's. So what did I do? Well, I ditched my friend (well, dropped him off at home), pulled the battery and my books out of the backseat, and pulled my tools out of the trunk. I lowered my front tires to 26psi, then I turned the boost up to 10psi. Went and ran it again for 2 runs, and this is what I got:

1st run:
60': 2.261
330': 5.985
1/8: 9.097 @ 80.47
1000': 11.785
1/4: 14.067 @ 99.55
0-60 in 5.503

2nd run:
60': 2.213
330': 5.902
1/8: 8.992 @ 80.80
1000': 11.675
1/4: 13.957 @ 99.34
0-60 in 5.334

Those are the kind of results I wanted to see! I know this car is capable of 13's, and I did it on the street, with a shitty 60', 7/8 tank of pump gas, spare tire in the trunk, and on 2psi less boost than I plan on running at the track once I get enough fuel to it. Now I know its not 100% accurate, but those times are good enough for me! I went and looked at my stock run of 15.334 (it was still saved in the g-tech) and it went 0-100 in 19.249 seconds, look at the difference only 10 months later!

I'm hoping to get some bigger fuel injectors (26lb. instead of 22lb.) and turn up the boost to 12psi at the track and see what'll do. I would like to see 13's before switching to a halfway decent turbo.

Anyways, I just thought I would post this.

I'd say it's possible given the fact that you have a H-260 cam and a Gen III topend swap.  I'd say with a good launch and good weather conditions that 13s are definitely possible with your car.  Your in uncharted territory with the 3100 topend and cam.  I'd be really interested to see some actual timeslips, so get to the track soon.   :P   8)

I've been contemplating a Gen III swap lately since they have been showing up at U-pull it yards a lot lately.  I can probably get a whole Gen III topend from 'Harry's U-Pull It' for under $150.  I got my whole getrag 284 setup from a Cutlass Supreme at Harry's for around $150, and that included everything needed for the swap.  Anyways, what did you do for the exhaust manifolds, were you able to just open up the ports in the manifolds to match the heads??

I know it has been asked by many and no real true response...do the GEN III heads just bolt on to the 3.1 Vin V motor? I have heard there is some modification needed to the stock TGP intake...but do the heads just bolt up to the block? What is needed to be done to the intake to match it up? 8)

That is absolutely sweet.  Take it to the track soon so you can surprise everyone and get a solid time.  If your combo is good for 13's I think that shows that there really is potential in the 3.1.  Are you auto or 5 speed now?  And you are running the stock turbo correct?  What kind of tuning was done after the topend?

I'm trying to get to a track, but the track I usually go to is closed for the year, so I'm trying to find another one a little farther south that is open later.  I'm trying...I'm trying.

I got my topend for free, but I didn't like the heads that were on it so I used a set that I had previously bought that had been rebuilt and had a valve job done on them.  Basically brand new heads.  So the actual topend itself cost me nothing, but the whole swap altogether cost me about a grand, due to all the hoses I had to get, the head gaskets, head bolts, intake manifold gaskets, plenum gaskets, the UD pulley, the cam/lifters, timing chain/gears/damper, a 3100 power steering pump, etc...  As for the exhaust manifolds, I just ground away at the inside and matched them to the d-shaped port on the heads.  The outside of them is almost too small, but if you make sure you line up the manifolds and gaskets right then they will seal no problems.  It is close to not being big enough on the outside though.

Gen III heads DO NOT bolt up to Gen II intake as far as I could tell, I didn't try but I don't think it would work very well.  Thats why you use the whole 3100 topend.  I used the heads, LIM, plenum, and TB from a 3100.  But the heads definately just bolt right up to the block itself.  Its pretty simple to do, the main things you have to worry about is coolant lines, the pipe going from the intercooler to the tb (the tb is in a different spot on the 3100), and extending wires so that some of the sensors reach their new locations.  You also have to change the drivers side upper motor mounts (the one that bolts to the side of the head) to the 3100 one, because the 3100 tb will hit the 3.1 mount.  Once you start the swap if you have basic mechanical knowledge, it is pretty self explanitory what you will have to change.  Another problem i found is the the 02 sensor ends up almost in the way of the 3100 tb inlet, so its kinda tricky to find a hose setup that will bolt to the tb and not hit the 02 sensor.  You will also have to figure out a way to hook up your downshift cable to the tb, since 3100's never had a tranny with a downshift cable.  If I find time I will do a write-up but it will probably be a while.  (christmas break probably)

The car is still an automatic unfortunately.  I'm still running the stock turbo, and I have done no tuning since the topend.  I need to get bigger injectors and then get the chip tuned and the car should really wake up then.  Once I run 13's in it I'm not taking it to the track anymore.

But I don't want to do much more to the car because I don't really have a lot of money to dump into it, and its costing enough just to drive it in gas as it is.  Once I get bigger injectors, my 1.6 rockers installed, the chip tuned, and possibly a GT28RS, I will be done with the car and I'll just drive it, and eventually I'll probably put a 5 speed in it.  I don't plan on running it at the track with that much power because I really need my tranny.  I have WAY too much money into the car to sell it now, so I'll probably be keeping this car for a LONG time.
