Get the hell out of town.
Just almost went through my first hurricane. Well we chickened out   and took off Wednesday for Geronimo (yea the Indian chief) a little town about 40 miles east of San Antonio near Seguun  187 miles from north east Houston. (Humble). Stayed at wife?s daughters new house and played couch potato watching the news for 4 days. :(

So we packed up the car (already had every thing we needed in our hurricane kit) with the wife, dog (little thing that loves to travel) and the cat. Well the cat didn?t want to go. Finally ended up pulling him out from under the bed buy his tail which he always forgets to hide. Mind you now this is no little pussy. He weights 17.8# and when he doesn?t want to go it can get dangerous.

Well after a pretty good puncture wound in the top of my hand that was bleeding all over the place and a couple of scratches I  finally got the SOB in the car. Damn he hates to travel. Anyhow  we took off with the cat wailing for the first hour and then he finally settled down.

Thank god we left Wednesday.  :D  :D As most of you know if you saw a news cast Thursday and Fridays evacuation was an  un paralleled disaster. We went up and around Houston to avoid the traffic jams. It took us 50 miles out of our way and we spent 7 hrs on the road for a 3 ? hr trip but far better than the 15 to 24 hrs that it took allot people to get out. We hit a little bit of a traffic jam when we got to I 10 (major route through city to San Antonio) it cleared and we sailed in to Geronimo. Can you imagien sitting in your car on the side of a freeway, out of gas because you couldn?t find a station that had gas in 96 to 100* heat. No thank you.

We left Geronimo at 12.30 PM Sunday after my neighbor (who stayed through the storm) called me and said the power was on. We weren?t going back until the AC was on.

Well I wised up and put on leather garden gloves to get the F****** cat in the car.

Took off down I 10 and only got about 60 miles and the traffic stopped. I could see for about 2 miles down the road and couldn?t see the end of the jam. For all I knew it went clear to Houston. Made a U turn across the median with the wife yelling and screaming cause we bottomed out a few times. I went pretty fast cause I didn?t know if it was muddy or not. Anyhow we just took more back roads and got home with no delays at all in 5 ? hrs. Couldn?t believe that nobody was using these alternate routes. We went on Hyw 90 (4 lanes, I 10 replaced it) that parallels I 10 for about 60 miles and we were almost the only ones on it. I guess my wife is the only one that can read a map. Literally unbelievable.

Driving into our neighborhood it looked like a disaster zone. Bunch of trees  and branches down everywhere. Didn?t see any structural damage anywhere. Guess we were lucky dodged a  big bullet. Much more fortunate than a lot of other poor soles that lost everything.

Have you given yet :?:  It?s going to take piles of money to restore east Texas and Louisiana.

My wife and I gave a bunch of un-used clothes we had, but as far as money goes?? NO WAY! My tax dollars are very well tied up in rebuilding Tx and LA!

Glad to hear you are ok after the storms have died down! 8)

TGPilot, doesn't mater what you give. I gave a bunch of used cloths to a relief fund over in the McDonalds parking lot. Good stuff but used. Went straight to the Astro Dome here in houston. Gave a little cash to the Red Cross also. Every little bit helps. Thanks. :)

And thanks, It sure is good to be home safe and sound with our house intact. I was scared to death that the house would have a tree through it. Got 4 big pine trees fairly close to the house.

I'm glad the worst didn't happen. I had a fellow from Houston (actually Galviston)..come visit me to see the GTU while he was here in SA. He had told a good long story of how terrible traffic was. And this on a Beretta that was prone to overheating, with no AC. Good thing ..cuz he would have ran out of gas if he had AC. The routest from houston were out of GAS :!: .  He plans on staying here till traffic clears..not to mention some well needed rest before heading home to clear the plywood off the windows.

And yes..donations needed. I've helped and will still help with the effort. Gave away new clothes I just boght and some used blankes.
