OK, I have a question about my VIN.  I've noticed that everyones number so far looks like this XXXXXXXXXLFXXXXXX.  My VIN is 1G5WP14V5KF297890.  Why do I have a KF instead of an LF?  I even checked the original window sticker to make sure that something didn't get screwed up somewhere in the past but it is indeed a KF VIN.  Can anyone explain?

LF2928XX - The insurance company said there's something wrong with the VIN # because it isn't showing on their computers as a valid Grand Prix.  They left me a message telling me this, and I have yet to get back at them.  I'm not sure what I'm going to tell them, but I don't think I'm going to let them know it's a turbo  :P

Well, mine is 1G5WP14V7LF297181, and why blank out any part at all, its public record anyway, oh yeah by the way, the last 6 digits is the sequence in build, the first set of numbers will mostly be the same except for the 10th digit which is the year.  Most of the tgp's had similar specs.
All ahould start with 1g5w(us built, gm, Pontaic, W body) and last 6 are unique.  7th digit should always be 4(restraint code) and 8th digit is V(engine type).  10th digit will be a K or L ( I think for 89 or 90, year) and the last 6 refer to the number of chassis for that car, the lower the number, the older the build.

I've seen a "check code" mentioned, what's that?
