so i sold my '91 Turbo 5-speed Cutlass sedan about 3 weeks ago for $2000.  i bought a 'new' car today.  like my Cutlass, this one is also Turbo, 5-speed, blue, '91, a sedan, and domestic lol.  unlike my Cutlass, it has wayyyyy more potential, way less miles, and is just all together a much nicer car IMHO.  it's a  '91 Dodge Spirit R/T, 1 of 1208 made, and 1 of 434 made in white (well, it was white anyway).  it has the 224hp 2.2L DOHC 16-valve Intercooled 'Turbo-III' engine and the bulletproof A-568 5-speed transmission (New Process trans with Getrag gearset).  12" disc brakes front and rear and the rear discs are even vented.  115,000 miles, clean interior, NO RUST at all!  i need to replace the front bumper obviously, as well as the turbocharger and buy a new oil/coolant line set front FWDPerformance.com.  the previous owner lost the keys, so i either have to get new door/trunk lock cylinders and a new ignition switch or get keys made for them.  hopefully that is all it needs to get it going again but i'm sure there will be a few other things that pop up as well.

anyways, didn't have time to do anything to it today besides get some pics...

the airbox and some other misc. underhood parts are in the trunk; it's all there.  as for the front bumper cover, my brother and i found this 3.0L Spirit ES at a local j/y:

http://www.turbosedan.com/spiritrt/DSC03456.JPG (<-- even has the correct grill)

i paid $800, not bad for a complete, totally rust free 115,000 mile Spirit R/T.  hell i've seen some Turbo-III cylinder heads (Lotus designed) go for $1000+ on ebay and that is just for the head alone.  the interior is in really nice shape too; i just need to clean it up before i get pics.  i didn't even have to go anywhere to get it either, the car was already sitting in the apartment parking lot where i live  :icon_biggrin:  this is the only other Spirit R/T i have ever seen besides my brother's red '91 R/T.  besides the color, this one is optioned exactly like his.  i'm going to peel off those cheesy graffics tomarrow.  i already peeled off the part that was on the driver's side fender as you can see in the pics above and it came off real easy.

I hope those are decals! If so, remove them asap. That should be fun to play with once you replace those parts. How fast have people made those on the stock turbochargers?

all of the decals will be gone tomarrow :icon_mrgreen:

i'm not sure how fast people have gone on the stock turbocharger.  it's a fairly small Garrett T3.  i know there are quite a few R/Ts well into the 12s and some 11s.  the fastest TIII powered car is actually in an 80s Charger a guy owns up in Canada i think.  i think he has hit 8s :icon_eek:  that's a full-on race car though.  the most popular turbo upgrade seems to be the T3/T04 hybrid.  3-bar cals readily available :icon_biggrin:

i know one guy hit 501whp with his '91 Spirit R/T on stock block & head, cams, PT SC6152S turbo, 30psi with alcohol injection IIRC.

Kickass Josh, that should clean up real nice :) bet it drives like a dream too.

That $800 LeBaron GTS that Pete got.. he found out it needs a headgasket :icon_evil: sucks but it should be a quick job with me and him doing it. I don't know if he got it to stop boost spiking.

oh it will be awhile before i'm able to drive it..  maybe next spring?  it's going to be quite a project.

my GTS needed a headgasket too.  it was blown when i bought it (didn't even know it was blown until i pulled the head off lol).  not sure why his boost would be spiking.  i had mandrel bent 2.5" exhaust on my GTS and never had that problem.  mine had the Turbo-II just like his car.  could be issues with the factory vacuum harness, or possibly a bad wastegate actuator?

I figured the wastegate wasn't opening too.. he pieced together a boost control valve at home depot but I didn't think that would solve his problems, I haven't heard any results yet. We'll probably work on the GTS and the STE this weekend, hopefully get a few things sorted out. My car's pretty close to ready, I think, but I know they're both going to be ongoing projects (aren't they always?). It's been 22 months since I pulled the STE off the road, hopefully that won't be happening again in the near future...

anyway, sorry for off-topic. back to you, Josh.

Yes these motors do have great potential but remember 80's charger is far from stock. He hasn't made it into the 7's I think his best time was close to 8.04. Here is a picture. He is running 2 injectors per cylinder.

Looks better already without the decals. I picked up my second Iroc R/T for $800.00 last year after a hurricane partially flooded it. No damage to the TIII or 568. I offered it to Jimmy for what I put out to get it here but he is true to the TGP. Let us know how it matches up to your twin brothers R/T. He is way ahead of you with mods so catch up quick.

Yes, I have the same name on turbododge. Whats even more interesting is that my name is Tim as well. I've sold my CSX, I dont want to sell it, but then again I'm ready to get rid of it. I just want something that is easy to drive. I'm a sucker for these rare cars, and obviously I found a Turbo Gran Prix. All power options . . . I'm sold already. Let alone the potential.    Granted, in 2 weeks, I may be kicking myself in the @$$, but at least it will be something different.
