Replace Transmission Modulator

How do I remove/replace the transmission vaccum modulator? The Service Manual Suppliment only shows a description of the part, not the process for removing and replacing it.

there is a small bracket next to it with a bolt that is about 1/2 inch wrench size. remove the bolt and slide the retaining braket out and pull the vacuum modulator out. I wet the new O ring with either trans fluid or vasoline and slide the new one in. Install retaing braket and bolt.

    Yep exactely, I was looking in my shop manual when Tim answered . But Krenz can you PM me to a question I have. Did you figure out if the Bolt pattern 5-114.3 work?Thanks

Alright thanks guys! I'm either gonna go do this quickly tonight if it can be done in less than half an hour, or wait till tomorrow after work. Another thing: what all needs to be removed to actually get ahold of that valve, since there's wires and hoses and all of God's children standing in front of it? Would I be better off going in from underneath?

Is the bolt on the left side or the right? I can't see ANYTHING but the nipple sticking out and a tiny portion of the body...

Thanks! Any tips on how the hell to get in there? Remove the loxer intercooler pipe and air filter, I know, but is there anything else I could remove to make it more accessible?

IIRC the turbo oil drain line can be troublesome here, especially if it's stock or brand new.  I think I removed mine for this process.

Ok, so I got the modulator changed. WOW! Shifts excellent! Still confused though, since he did not install the check valve, but again mated the throttle vaccum line with the trans modulator. I called him and asked him why, and he said that the auto parts store says "It's adjustable and has no need for a check valve since there's a check valve type thing built in"? Sounds right to anyone? All I know is he said the one he took out didn't have a diaphragm-type thing inside it, and this one does. This thing shifts like almost brand new!

It still needs a check valve man.  The check valve is there to protect the modulator by bleeding off boost.
