I have a 1990 grand Prix Turbo and a 1998 Monte Carlo. The Monte Carlo has a 5 speed with a blown 3.1 and I was wondering if I could drop in the 3.1 turbo and use the new style electrical from the Monte Carlo on the old motor, like MAF, MAP, and crankshaft position sensor. I know the motor will fit right in I?m just worried about sensors and I?m not about to do an electric swap again been there and done that. The only sensor I won?t have is the camshaft position sensor. So does anyone here know about any other problems I might run into? Thank you.

Why not just do the L67 supercharged route, it would actually be easier.

Then go the 3500 route.  The 3.1 turbo is nice if you have a car with the Gen II setup but I don't see why you would try to go back in technology if you don't already have an engine in there.  My plans are to go 3500 or 3400/3500 hybrid turbo someday......The runner design is much better on the gen III's and they make much more power with less heat.  Do what you want but it is just as much work to do that than the other.

I think i might just drop in the 3100 for now until i find the 3400, i can get the 3100 for $150. I really want to do the 3400 just because it would be the fastest upgrade i can do plus it would be nice to add a turbo to it.

My local yard has like dozens of venture vans and transports with 3400s in them with under 100k.  In fact when my 97 skylark gs spun a bearing I put a 3400 from a 2000 GAGT in there.   Use the 3100 injectors and stock computer if your car came with the 3100 it runs perfect like that.  Easiest route to go.  I bet a 3400 would be just as cheep as the 3100.  If you have to go 3100 get the one with the large port manifolds.  They make a little more HP.

My local junkyard only has the 3100, i found some 3400 in PA but its to far from me right now. How much are the 3400 going for out your way?

Depends, Gary's just and an engine sale for $75 with a core.............can't go wrong for that price.

If you are in PA try Harry's Upullit yards.  They have ones in Hazleton, Allentown and Pennsburg.
