what tranys are possible for cheap installs?

I'm selling my 1999 GTP that runs mid 13's for a 1989 TGP from Kyle (KRENZY), but he's got the stock trany in it. from the mods he told me he has on it it wouold seem to be a near even match up to my current GTP.
what is needed to run the:

G6 6-Speed?

4T65E?

5 -speed manual swap (regular 5-speed, getrags 282-284)?

I personally would keep the stock tranny since it is brand new and works perfectly. :dunno:

The easiest tranny swaps you can do are the 282/284.

The 4T65E would require some tuning and I think you need OBD2 to run it.

I believe the G6 6-speed would require custom motor mounts to fit in the car.

i dunno about anyone else, but im ready to give up on the 282 based on lack of parts/conflicting information alone. not to mention the available gear ratios...

But most definitely if going with the 282 0r 284, make sure you find a complete parts car thats not to badly damage...

Now I found all my internal parts with no problems. I think Gutless is Mainly talking about external parts

I meant internal; I've already been through the fight to find external parts :icon_lol: axles were the hardest, and I had to make my own intermediate shaft bracket.

What internal parts do you need to locate? Jimmy and I rebuilt his and did have a few issues with parts but we located all but one with not much issues and then just made the shim we couldn't locate.

Oops your right again Tim, I did forget about that stupid Shim. Sorry not trying to Hijack, but Pm me Gutless and me or Tim will do the best we can to find those,( so called hard to find) parts......... Mainly Tim  ;)

I've heard the same in regards to the Getrags...which is why I was curious about the G6 Trany, because it's a bolt up (with other slight modifications...) to the 3800 and G6-GTP 3.9L motors. and can fit the 2.8-3.4 but would require the OBDII rewiring/programming.
I know that trany can hold up to at least 300 WHP on a DD..
Folk havew told me plenty of their pros and cons stories, and all I got out of it was Getrag is good but not good...lol
284 has no parts availible for it except the dealer, and the 282 has parts out there but doesn't hold up to a turbo car for long.
I'm more confused now than ever.
I think I'll stick to what Nick and Kyle said, and leave the auto trany until it actually would need a new trany. which with the way I drive will be the year 3000.

although I do plan on getting a fiero later down the road and doing either the L67 swap, 3.4, or mclaren set up. guess I'll hold off until then. unless somebody is willing to sell me their pre 97 GTP 5 speed for under $1500  :icon_biggrin:

Like I was telling Nick, I tried my damnest to make the auto work. I think it would be a better tranny for the TGP's, but after spending roughly $3000 for the Rebuild and only lasting a year it was time to consider doing the 5 speed swap which totally cost me 1400 to rebuild. Plus it is much easier to work on when something goes wrong, which it will, especially if you beat on it. which ever one you go with.....Good Luck  :thumb:

Bullet

can I get some info on that white one?
I'm interested.
