Well as many already know I hit the half track and busted a few axles  :icon_eek: including the intermediate shaft.  Got her back going due to a lucky break finding a 88 gpse parts car in like 1 hour on the internet!  Anyways here are the before and after shots!

The white cobra is a 1997 4.6 Dohc V8 owned by a buddy of mine Shawn.  He was running street tires........on my best run I ran a 9.21 at 78 MPH with a 2.15 sixty spinning all the way through 1st gear.  He ran a best of 9.26 I forget the mph but it was a little thrill to beat the cobra (even though I have one myself)  He is a good sport because he helped find a trailer after I broke on my 4th run.  Nice guy huh?

The maroon Caprice is a 2 door with a later model caprice rear disc conversion and a 454 big block with a mild cam.  That car ran a 9.5 on 225 wide street tires!!

BTW using a traction based 1/8th to quarter mile estimator program I should have ran a 14.164 on that run if I had hooked up!

Oh well I think that is it for me for a bit until I have some spare parts lying around I'm not going to the track for a bit.  Pictures!

Carnage FTL Pics FTW!

I never did like DR's, I prefer slicks...  Although you might have been swapping a trans using slicks.  How hard where you launching?
I am somewhat glad I am auto still.  lol

Yeah I wanted to be able to drive to the track on whatever tires I got.  How hard was I launching?  Hard to say the 1/8th mile here sucks in the fact that at the tree you roll back, so I have to balance the clutch on the line then rev it up at the last minute to launch.  My estimate was 5k trying to slip the clutch but It started to hop and then I hit the rev limiter, slammed it into second gear then...........boom knock knock knock knock.  Wheel hop is a bitch.  I think if I go back to the track at all I will be on street tires I cannot afford to break this thing anymore.

Those are American Racing FR500 replica wheels with a gunmetal center.  They were blem wheels (had a small nick on the lips) so he got them for like $500 for the entire set!  They look amazing on that car.

You should try to convice him to let you bolt them up to your Grand Prix....just to see how well they fit.  I've always thought about getting those wheels for the TGP, the offset should be right and the bolt pattern is 114.3x5 if I remember correctly, which should fit.

Oh and HOLY SHIT BALL about that carnage!  :icon_eek:

oh and a 5k launch!!! That's crazy!  Especially with the torque of a 2.8/3.1.  :icon_eek:

Nice carnage. :icon_razz: I'm planning on eventually testing out some drag radials with the auto....probably on the red car for now.

Might want to have a spare auto or 5 speed ready to swap in because those clutched on a 4T60 are not going to like DRs..............

Yeah thanks I'm pretty proud of those pictures  :icon_rolleyes: Better this car than my cobra I think I would have cried if it was that car........

At least I know my clutch is not slipping..........

Good luck with all that...    Ken is right get a 5 speed and never look back.. I have invested tons of money and time into the 4t60 platform. It costs too much money to build a stout auto and then you are still limited to the amount steels and frictions you can use in 3 an 4 gear.
