"O" ring replacement Dist location (top of engine)

Hello again.  I purchased a new O ring and prepped the area to replace this. I could not get the blankoff plate off!  It will rotate easily, and I even tried to pry it up...still, it will not come out. Any ideas? Thanks, Rob

I used a pair of long needle nose pliers with a 45` bend in the end. Twist it while pulling up.

When I replaced mine it was a hassle to get it loose. I used a really big pair of Channel locks to get mine off. redturbo90 is right when he says to pull up when you are twisting. Most likely the old O ring is so hard that it won't come up past the lip. Take your time and pull as hard as you can STRAIGHT up...8)

Feel luck you guys can get to the damn thing.  On a 3.4 the correct way is to remove the freakin head!  I chose the cheesy rout and used JB weld.  I know its just a matter of time when I will have to do it right but that stuff holds for years.

I used a fine pointed tool at lip and tapped it with a hammer to get the
vertical upward movement going, and create gap to put screw driver blade.

I actually did see a tool sold just for removing this thing, claimed especially usefull on 3.4's. The tool warehouse, online.

Well I would spray engine cleaner there then presure wash that spot and let it dry...then remove the retainer and pull the thing up an inch and put silicone or coper silicone there (kind of like making a gasket like the old chevy distributers) and slap it back in and tighen it. But clean the area off of oil that is going to get silicone on it. It should work quite nicely.
