I have a 90 tgp with the stock LG5 in it and a 282 5 speed swap.  After installing a new turbo the engine seized shortly after.  I just picked up a 3100 SFI, i am pretty sure it is the l82 due to the SFI on the intake?
Soo my question is can i swap the bottom end from the l82 to the LG5 or would i be better off throwing the entire l82 motor in the car? and would my tgp wiring harness and pcm work? and i would switch the injectors, oil pump, oil pan, and obviously the crossover with the turbo setup.  Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated as i am in need of a daily driver and have limited funds.  Thanks

The crank position sensor wont work on the tgp ecm. You can get an external crank trigger from wot-tech.com
If you use the 3100 intakes, the throttle linkage will have to be custom.

I think thats about it

One of our former members did this with a 3400 but didn't turbo it.  See link below.

Thanks for the reply.  i was reading on that external crank sensor and it said it may have problems with SFI motors that check for intake timing vs. crank timing.

that may put a damper on me using the tgp ecm and wiring harness,  Any ideas?

I think theyre referring to the adjustability of the crank trigger. But you wont have to worry about that, if you are using the tgp ecm, its not sfi.

Ahh ok, i was just told on 60degreev6 that if i use the tgp ecm with the L82 and only connect the 3x crank sensor than it will work fine since the tgp ecm doesnt know about the 24x.  do you know if that is accurate?

Jonpro03

Actually that sounds right :icon_exclaim:

I guess it wouldn't see the 24x

If you don't wanto mess with too much, you can swap the 3100s crank and bearings and get a new pump on the TGP motor if the rods are not discolored. If you see blue, purple burned rods, then just change engines. See the section on this site under How to and under Juds 3400 top end swap. Most of the mods to the cables and pipes can  be found there.
