so I finally got my car back together. I got the trans from a wrecked car and it is a turbo specific one too. first and foremost I found these when I was dropping the pan to change the filter

no idea what those are...

however its issues are:
occasionally it will absolutely slam the 1-2 shift, way harder then I feel it should
recently it will get fits where it won't want to engage first gear leaving a traffic light or a stop sign. sometimes it will do it no problem other times it will rev like its in neutral till you give it way too much gas then it will bark the tires and then start moving fine.

today I started it and it would not go into reverse or drive then a minute or 2 later it went in just fine.

I should mention that before I installed this trans it sat unused for several years, dry in a garage under plastic.

more often then not it performs overall well it will upshift, downshift good. TQ lockup works fine

basically is there anything I should look for, or am I screwed and in need of a trans rebuild?

With that piece in the pan and those issues, I'm guessing there is an internal issue. I'm not sure, but I think those pieces might be from a thrust washer. With no reverse or drive until you rev it up, it sounds like something isn't holding properly and then grabs. Maybe something is wrong with the input clutch/sprag? I believe that's used in both 1st and reverse.

I totally agree with Matt.. I had the same pieces in the bottom of my 4t60-e and had a professional tranny guy look at it and he said it was a thrust washer.. I gave you the same info over on w-body.. I never ran the trans after that he told me it was in need of a full rebuild after he saw that.. so i did and i basically got a new tranny back..
