Solved my random dying issue?

My TGP will die all of a sudden for no apparent reason and at times it has been dangerous as hell. I recently installed a K&N filter setup, removed all the factory crap to free up the front of the engine and then installed a breather in the valve cover. Amazingly, the car seems to run a little better, but more importantly, it has stopped dying randomly. Anyone else have a similiar experience? Not complaining, just not sure it could really have made that big a difference.  :icon_neutral:

I'm trying to do exactly what you just described, but I can't find a single correctly-sized filter or breather in any of the walk-in stores near me or their respective websites. I'm going to try something OTHER than Advance now.  :icon_rolleyes:

Could the air hose have been collapsing itself and not allowing enough air to get in?  Only thing I can think of.

Hardly any normal auto parts store is going to carry a K&N in the size that we typically install. They're usually much cheaper online anyway.

Does it only die at idle? It could be because there is less restriction in the intake so the engine can idle faster as needed.

Fred931 take a look at this post http://www.tgpforums.com/index.php?topic=225.0 there'S a lot of information on filters.  Personally I used the RU-1390 and it fits nicely!

Thanks a ton. Looked up the parts there and bookmarked 'em.

Iv found the RU-1390 hits and crushes the filter. It works fine still, i use it, but it just looks like crap all crunched

I have mine angled upward/turned upside down(I believe the K&N print on the front is upside down if you're looking at it from the front of the car) and it's never made contact w/ the intercooler. All my mounts are in great shape and don't allow much movement.

Charged the TGP's battery this weekend and fired it up and drove it around the block to knock the rust off the rotors. Drove it to work this morning. It is running SO MUCH better than before. Still has not died yet either. Amazing.........
