Car Starts Idles OK for 5 Seconds then Floods

I'm trying to troubleshoot a few things right now. Back story:

Last fall there was a slight knocking sound. I had a few spare injectors, tried swapping them with no luck.

Left the car alone for the winter. This spring I installed some L67 injectors, and the intermittent knocking sound is still there, now i'm relatively sure it's a lifter at this point but haven't torn into the motor yet.

A new issue arose. Now, no matter how much I change BPC the car starts, idles ok and then goes rich as hell, to the point that there's unburnt fuel vapor coming out of the tailpipe.

I tried a bunch of things in $8F and bailed on it. I decided to go code $59. I've been having a bunch of hassles in $8F historically and got tired of it, figured I'd start fresh with code $59. I have the same issue with code 59. I adjust BPC vs EGR and it starts great, decent AFR then goes off the chart rich...

Car has good vacuum at idle, coolant and MAT and MAP sensors all working appropriately, and no CEL

Does anyone have any ideas?

L67 = 36 lbs injectors

LG8 = 22 lbs injectors

Your car is flooding out instantaneously.  If your looking for some other injectors to try go with a NA 3800 (L36) motor or a 3.4DOHC (LQ1) donor cars

Just my 2 cents
2004 GTP -  3.8 Blown - Only modding for MPG.
1997 GTP  - 3.8 Blown - Too many mods to list.
1996 GTP - 3.4 DOHC - Twin to my 1997.
1995 SE - soon to be a 3.8 turbo car.

1990 TSTE x 1 maroon leather
1990 TGP - 5 speed.

Thanks for the reply GPChief.

I probably should have added more back story, my car is far from stock and a bit of a mutt. I had 30# Ford Red tops in there prior. It ran alright on those, but I'm having a lot of trouble since I switched to the L67 injectors.

I can modify the BPC constant so that it starts at a reasonable AFR, but after a few seconds of running, it goes super rich. If I lean out the BPC, the INT goes through the roof when I first start it and it still goes super rich. To me that makes me think it isn't 100% injector related. I may switch back to the 30#r's just to be sure, but it seems like it goes super rich after 5 seconds of running no matter what I do.

As a side note, my battery died after the car sat unused a while. Is it possible that a weak battery could be part of the problem?

Battery is possible but I doubt it is your problem, have you checked some of the related sensors like to IAC or TPS? (anouther guess)

Was your chiptuned for the bigger injectors already?

Yeah, it was tuned for the 30# injectors, although I didn't get it all ironed out great last summer  before I put it away for the winter and this happened.

According to the ALDL output it seems that the IAC is at a reasonable number of steps, TPS appears to be reading correctly. The Coolant Temp Sensor and MAT sensor also appear to be reporting reasonable numbers. Hopefully I'll get some time this weekend to do more diagnosis.

Thanks,

Jon

Disable closed loop.  Set the BPC at 58ish. Should run well.
